The Community of Madrid has awarded Tres Cantos the 2024 Seven Stars of Sport Award in the category of Promoting Sport from Local Administration. The City Council plans to invest over 21 million euros between 2026 and 2027 in sports infrastructure.
The Community of Madrid has granted Tres Cantos the 2024 Seven Stars of Sport Award, in the category of Promoting Sport from Local Administration. This is one of the highest sporting recognitions awarded by the regional government, and it values the municipality's commitment to promoting physical activity among its residents.
The award, presented by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport, recognises the sports model promoted by the Tres Cantos City Council, which has been described as a reference for other administrations. According to the Community of Madrid, this model is characterised by a firm and continuous commitment that places sport as an essential element for the quality of life, health, and well-being of the citizens.
The Mayor of Tres Cantos, Jesús Moreno, expressed gratitude for the distinction to both the jury and the regional government. “We receive this award with immense pride and, above all, with great responsibility to continue advancing and consolidating the city as a model of success and excellence in all areas, including, of course, in terms of sport, which is a true way of life in the municipality and one of the great pillars of well-being,” he stated.
Moreno wanted to extend the recognition to sports clubs, athletes, coaches, entities, volunteers, and municipal workers. “Whose daily effort makes it possible for Tres Cantos to be a sports reference both inside and outside the Community of Madrid. This award also belongs to all of them,” he added.
The Tres Cantos City Council plans to allocate more than 21 million euros between 2026 and 2027 to improve and expand sports infrastructure throughout the city. This investment is part of the municipal policy to strengthen facilities and installations, under the premise that “more sport means more health, more well-being, and more quality of life,” as the mayor emphasised.
The Seven Stars of Sport Awards from the Community of Madrid constitute the highest recognition granted by the region to individuals, entities, and institutions that stand out for their contribution to the promotion and development of sport. In the 2024 and 2025 edition, in addition to Tres Cantos, the awards have also recognised pilots Álex and Marc Márquez, former basketball player Sergio Rodríguez, athlete María Pérez, and footballer Vicky López.
The distinction to Tres Cantos represents a boost to the local strategy of promoting grassroots sport, physical activity among the elderly, and organising sporting events that energise the municipality's social life. In recent years, the City Council has expanded the network of facilities, with new courts, fields, and sports centres, as well as improvements to existing ones.
For the residents of Tres Cantos, this award translates into a greater offer of sports activities and quality facilities that promote an active lifestyle. The announced investment will allow, among other actions, the construction of new courts, the renewal of pavements, and the improvement of energy efficiency in sports centres.
The City Council has highlighted that collaboration with local sports clubs and associations is key to the success of the model. More than twenty sports entities operate in the municipality, offering disciplines ranging from football and basketball to athletics, swimming, and padel.
With this award, Tres Cantos consolidates itself as a reference in the promotion of sport in the Community of Madrid, a recognition that the municipal government hopes to maintain and exceed in the coming years with new initiatives and improvements in infrastructure.
