The Plaza de Toros in Colmenar Viejo transforms into an open-air cinema this August. The Town Hall has scheduled four sessions during the weekends of the first half of the month, with films for all audiences at a price of 3 euros per ticket. This initiative is part of the municipality's summer cultural programme, which received a warm welcome from residents in July.
The Councillor for Culture, Rocío Cámara Pellón, highlighted that, following the success of the July screenings, the offer continues in August with new features: “As a novelty and in response to residents' requests, we are including Saturday sessions.” Until now, summer cinema was only held on Fridays, but demand has led to an expansion of the days.
Screenings start at 10:00 PM, and tickets are sold at the box office of the plaza two hours before each session begins. The venue will have catering services, selling drinks and snacks, so attendees can enhance their experience.
The programme kicks off on Friday, August 1, with 'Moana', the live-action version of the Disney classic. Directed by Thomas Kail, it stars Catherine Lagaʻaia and Dwayne Johnson. The film tells the story of a young girl who, on an island where sailing beyond the reef is forbidden, embarks on a journey across the ocean to save her village from food scarcity. Its duration is 115 minutes.
On Saturday, August 2, 'Scary Movie', the sixth installment of the horror comedy saga, will be screened. Directed by Michael Tiddes, it features Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Anna Faris in the cast. The plot picks up years after the protagonists escaped from a masked killer, who once again targets them alongside monsters and supernatural creatures. The film lasts 95 minutes.
The following weekend, on Friday, August 8, 'Tr3s de más', a Spanish comedy directed by Mar Olid, will be shown. Starring Salva Reina, Kira Miró, and Luna Fulgencio, it tells the story of Julia and Ernesto, a childless couple who wake up one day with three children calling them mum and dad, disrupting their perfect life. The film has a duration of 98 minutes.
On Saturday, August 9, the cycle concludes with 'Making Friends', directed by David Marqués. Quim Gutiérrez, Antonio Resines, and Megan Montaner play a pair of small-time robbers who, while fleeing from the police, encounter a theatre group made up of people with disabilities. By mistake, the criminals are mistaken for new members and end up at a creative retreat for a week. The film lasts 110 minutes.
This initiative aims to provide an alternative nightlife option in the municipality during the summer, combining cinema with an iconic space like the Plaza de Toros. Residents of Colmenar Viejo and nearby towns can enjoy these sessions in an outdoor setting, with affordable prices.
The Town Hall reminds that seating is limited and recommends arriving early to purchase tickets. The catering service will be operational during all screenings, and it is expected that the August nights will maintain the good atmosphere of the July sessions.
