The Tres Cantos City Council allocates nearly 4 million euros to improvement works in the nine public schools in the area, with special attention to the installation of air conditioning and energy efficiency.
The Tres Cantos City Council has launched an ambitious improvement plan for the nine public schools in the area, with a total investment nearing four million euros. Of this amount, 900,000 euros come from the Regional Investment Programme (PIR) of the Community of Madrid, while the remaining nearly three million is sourced from municipal funds.
The main novelty this year is the installation of air conditioning systems in classrooms, dining halls, gyms, and other spaces. A specific allocation of 400,000 euros has been reserved for this purpose, which will be used for equipment that meets energy efficiency criteria. The aim is to improve thermal comfort during the hottest months, a recurring demand from the educational community.
The regional programme sets a cap of 100,000 euros per school, which can be applied not only to climate control but also to other renovations such as roof and façade repairs, playground renovations, removal of architectural barriers, or general modernization of facilities. This allows each school to address the most urgent or necessary actions.
The works vary by school. CEIP Carmen Hernández Guarch will have new recreational areas; CEIP Ciudad de Columbia will improve its dining hall; and CEIP Gabriel García Márquez will repair the eaves. CEIP Miguel de Cervantes is undergoing a more extensive renovation, which includes the renewal of play areas and improvement of drainage.
Other notable actions include the renovation of the multipurpose classroom at CEIP Aldebarán, the repair of the roof and sports court at CEIP Carmen Iglesias, the naturalization of the playground at CEIP Ciudad de Nejapa, the renovation of bathrooms at CEIP Tierno Galván, and the complete renovation of the gym at CEIP Antonio Osuna.
“Education is a priority for this municipal government, and we want our schools to offer the best possible conditions for learning and teaching,” stated the mayor of Tres Cantos, Jesús Moreno.
Moreno thanked the support of the Community of Madrid, emphasizing that these aids complement the municipal investment effort. “This new line of the Regional Investment Programme will be able to incorporate climate control systems in various educational centres and continue improving essential facilities for the families of Tres Cantos,” he added.
The total investment in the public schools of Tres Cantos amounts to nearly 4 million euros, adding the 900,000 euros from the new allocation to the nearly 3 million of own funds. The works include roof renovations, electrical installations, carpentry, playgrounds, sports courts, sanitation, accessibility, and energy efficiency.
The City Council expects all actions to be completed before the start of the next school year in September. In this way, students and teachers will return to more modern, safe, and comfortable centres. Families will be able to consult the details of the works at each centre through the municipal website.
