Mayor Sara Hernández has welcomed Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing to prepare for the 2027 edition of the municipal programme, which will include a Spanish-Chinese business meeting.
Getafe will be the stage for an ambitious international cooperation project. The mayor, Sara Hernández, held a working meeting with the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Spain, Yao Jing, at the City Hall. The meeting served to finalise the details of the upcoming edition of the 'Guest Country' programme, which in 2027 will be dedicated to China.
The programme, which will take place in April 2027, will turn Getafe into a meeting point between both cultures. According to the Councillor for Culture and Coexistence, Luis Domínguez, the initiative aims to bring the artistic and traditional richness of China closer to the residents while generating new economic opportunities. 'Dedicating a new edition of our 'Guest Country' programme to China will turn Getafe into a great meeting space,' Domínguez pointed out.
China thus joins the list of countries that have featured in previous editions, such as Romania, Colombia, Poland, Cuba, or Morocco. The programme will include cultural, gastronomic, and traditional activities for all citizens.
One of the main focuses of this edition will be the Spanish-Chinese business meeting. Both administrations have agreed to organise an economic event that will bring together companies and institutions from both territories. The primary objective is to generate business opportunities, encourage foreign investment, and strengthen trade relations.
During the meeting, the advantages that Getafe offers as a strategic municipality for the establishment of new projects were discussed. Its location, strong industrial fabric, and commitment to innovation were some of the highlighted aspects. Ambassador Yao Jing expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and showed the firm interest of the Embassy in continuing to strengthen cooperation with the city in key areas such as culture and economic development.
For the residents of Getafe, this initiative represents a unique opportunity to experience Chinese culture firsthand without leaving their municipality.
