The Móstoles City Council has deactivated the emergency response after nearly 400 people returned to their homes from three municipal pavilions.
Nearly 400 people who were accommodated in the municipal pavilions Paco Sedano, La Loma, and Rafa Martínez in Móstoles have been able to return to their homes after the evacuation order was lifted in the municipalities of Fresnedillas de la Oliva and Cadalso de los Vidrios, from where the families mainly came. This has been confirmed by the Móstoles City Council, which considers the emergency response activated for five days due to the wildfires affecting various areas of the Community of Madrid to be concluded.
During this period, Móstoles became one of the main emergency response centres in the region, providing accommodation, food, and comprehensive care to families who had to leave their homes. The operation, coordinated by the City Council, included the distribution of hundreds of meals, dinners, and breakfasts, as well as ongoing medical and psychological assistance for the displaced.
The mayor of Móstoles, Manuel Bautista, wanted to thank all the people and institutions that made the operation possible. "Móstoles has once again shown that it is a committed city, capable of responding quickly when it is most needed. I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Municipal Police, National Police, Móstoles Civil Protection, Red Cross, Móstoles Peñas Federation, municipal workers, volunteers, and also to the residents of our city, who once again have shown enormous solidarity. Thanks to all of them, we have been able to offer the accommodated families a safe place in such difficult times," the mayor stated.
The operation also included specific attention for the most vulnerable individuals. Specifically, six elderly people were transferred to the Casaverde centre to receive accommodation tailored to their needs. Additionally, over the weekend, senior officials from the Community of Madrid visited the facilities to inquire about the situation of the evacuees. On Sunday, the Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, visited the Paco Sedano pavilion, while on Monday, the Minister of Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, Miguel Ángel García, visited the Rafa Martínez pavilion.
With the return of the evacuees to their municipalities of origin, the municipal pavilions La Loma and Rafa Martínez will gradually resume their usual activities. Meanwhile, the Paco Sedano pavilion will remain prepared as a precaution in case it is necessary to accommodate residents from other municipalities if the situation requires it.
The rapid response of Móstoles has been key to ensuring the well-being of families affected by the wildfires, which in recent days have tested the emergency response systems of several towns in the Community of Madrid. According to municipal sources, community solidarity and coordination between administrations have been fundamental in overcoming this crisis.
The Móstoles City Council has highlighted that the experience gained in such situations allows for improved action protocols and better preparedness for future emergencies. For now, the operation is considered concluded, although alertness remains for possible flare-ups of fires due to adverse weather conditions.
