The Móstoles City Council has made the Rafa Martínez, La Loma, and Paco Sedano pavilions available to the Community of Madrid to house evacuees from the forest fires affecting the region.
The Móstoles City Council has handed over three municipal sports pavilions to the Community of Madrid to accommodate people evacuated due to the forest fires that have been ravaging various parts of the region for days. The measure, announced on Wednesday night, is part of the regional emergency response and aims to provide immediate assistance to those who have had to leave their homes due to the advancing flames.
The pavilions designated are Rafa Martínez, La Loma, and Paco Sedano, all located in Móstoles. The City Council has already mobilised municipal workers to prepare the facilities for the temporary accommodation of evacuees. The decision was made after the mayor, Manuel Bautista, personally conveyed the City Council's full willingness to collaborate with all available resources to the Community of Madrid.
“From the very first moment, we wanted to stand by the Community of Madrid and the residents of the affected municipalities. Móstoles responds once again when needed, making all municipal resources available to help those going through such a difficult situation,” Bautista stated in a public message released last night. The mayor expressed his concern about the evolution of the fires and offered not only the pavilions but also the Municipal Police and Civil Protection.
The allocation of the sports spaces is part of a permanent coordination between the Móstoles City Council and the regional administration to address any needs that arise within the emergency services' operations. The three pavilions, which usually host sports activities and events, have become temporary reception centres for those affected.
Móstoles thus joins other municipalities in the Community of Madrid that have offered their resources to tackle the crisis caused by the forest fires, which have forced the evacuation of several towns in recent hours. The City Council has also expressed its recognition and gratitude to all emergency personnel, firefighters, security forces, forest agents, Civil Protection, and support staff who are working tirelessly to control the flames and ensure the safety of the population.
Residents of Móstoles who wish to assist the evacuees can contact municipal Civil Protection through the usual channels. The City Council recommends staying alert to the authorities' instructions and following official accounts for possible new support measures.
