The Móstoles Plenary, in its July session, has given the green light to the creation of the Disability Sector Council and a Municipal Association Promotion Plan, among other initiatives.
The ordinary Plenary of the Móstoles City Council, held last Thursday, July 23, approved a series of measures aimed at strengthening citizen participation, inclusion, and support for families. Among the agreements are the creation of the Disability Sector Council, a Municipal Association Promotion Plan, and support for families receiving the CUME benefit.
The session began with a minute of silence for the victims of gender violence in the last month and another in memory of David Lucas, former mayor of Móstoles who recently passed away. The mayor, Manuel Bautista, wanted to pay tribute to the former mayor who served from 2015 to 2018: “Beyond legitimate political differences, those who dedicate their lives to public service deserve the recognition of the institutions they served.”
New advisory body for disability
At the proposal of the Mixed Group, the Plenary agreed to initiate the procedures to create the Móstoles Disability Sector Council, an independent body from the current Social Welfare Sector Council. It will have an advisory nature and real capacity for proposal, monitoring, and evaluation of municipal policies on accessibility, inclusion, and disability care.
The aim is for people with disabilities and their entities to have a direct voice in the design of policies that affect them. The council will be able to issue reports and binding recommendations in municipal procedures that require their participation.
Boosting the associative fabric
Also at the proposal of the Mixed Group, the approval of a Municipal Association Promotion Plan was agreed. The document will define objectives, lines of action, a calendar, and evaluation indicators, with the participation of associations and entities in the municipality.
At the same time, the modernization of the Municipal Registry of Associations will be promoted through the simplification of administrative procedures, the digitization of processes, and the ongoing updating of public information, always respecting data protection regulations.
Support for caregiver families
Vox presented a motion, approved by the Plenary, to support families receiving the CUME benefit and the primary caregivers who attend to minors with cancer, serious illnesses, severe disabilities, or dependency situations requiring continuous care.
The agreement urges the City Council to strengthen support resources for these caregivers, ensuring they receive the necessary information and assistance to carry out their work.
More measures: electoral spaces and muralism
Two motions from Más Madrid Móstoles also received the green light. The first proposes that the City Council provide temporary panels for placing posters during the electoral campaign in the busiest areas of Móstoles, as well as at least in each District Board. The second includes the commitment to establish, together with local artists, a city beautification program based on muralism in suitable spaces.
On the other hand, the Plenary approved an institutional declaration regarding the earthquakes that occurred in Venezuela and a motion from the Popular Group urging the Government of Spain not to modify the legal tools to limit popular accusation.
The PSOE presented a motion rejecting the law recognizing the unborn conceived approved by the Community of Madrid, defending women's rights and legal security, although it was not detailed whether it was successful.
With these agreements, Móstoles reinforces its commitment to more active citizen participation and more direct attention to the most vulnerable groups. The City Council expects the Disability Sector Council to be operational before the end of the year, while the Association Promotion Plan will be developed over the coming months with the collaboration of local entities.
