The Alcalá de Henares City Council will launch a new phase of the Municipal Resurfacing Plan on Monday, July 27, with works on Paseo de la Alameda, Teniente Ruiz, Gran Canal, and Gonzalo Torrente Ballester. The works have been planned to minimise disruption and reopen the centre before the Fairs.
The Alcalá de Henares City Council will begin on Monday, July 27, a new phase of the Municipal Resurfacing Plan that will affect four streets in the city. The works, which will last several weeks, aim to renew the pavement and improve road safety, as reported by the Councillor for Works, Urban Maintenance, and Municipal Buildings, Antonio Saldaña.
The actions have been designed in a staggered manner to minimise inconvenience to residents and drivers. The primary objective is to ensure that the main access roads to the historic centre and the fairgrounds are completely open before the start of the Fairs, a period of high foot traffic.
Saldaña explained that “we have designed the work schedule to balance a necessary pavement improvement with the least possible impact on residents' mobility.” The councillor has requested “understanding for the occasional inconveniences” and assured that the investment is “necessary to improve the safety and condition of our streets.”
The first intervention will begin on July 27 on Paseo de la Alameda, in the section between Plaza de la Juventud and Calle Marqués de Alonso Martínez. This section will remain closed to traffic until August 5. During this period, the bus stops located in the area will be out of service.
Urban line 6 will modify its route: towards Estación La Garena it will travel along Paseo del Val, Calle Sevilla, and Marqués de Alonso Martínez; towards Virgen del Val, it will go through Marqués de Alonso Martínez, Ronda Ancha, Giner de los Ríos, and Fernán Falcón. Interurban lines 231 and 232 will also be affected.
To ease traffic during the closure of Paseo de la Alameda, Calle Teniente Ruiz will be temporarily opened to traffic on July 27, allowing buses to return to their usual routes. Once the works on Paseo de la Alameda are completed and traffic is restored, Teniente Ruiz will be closed again between August 6 and August 20 for resurfacing.
During this second closure, urban lines 6 and 7 will travel along Calle Basilios, Paseo de Aguadores, Fernán Falcón, Paseo de la Alameda, and Marqués de Alonso Martínez. Interurban lines 231 and 232 will also be affected.
The works will continue on Calle Gran Canal, which will remain closed between August 3 and August 14. Urban lines 1B, 6, and 7 will divert their routes via Paseo de Pastrana and Ronda de Pescadería.
As a support measure for public transport users, urban buses will stop at all existing stops along the alternative routes, even if they do not usually correspond to those lines, as long as passengers request it.
Additionally, the City Council has announced that on Monday, July 27, works will also begin on Calle Gonzalo Torrente Ballester, as part of the municipal programme to improve the road network.
The City Council recommends planning trips in advance, paying attention to the temporary signage installed in each area, and following the instructions of the Local Police and mobility services during the works.
