The Tres Cantos City Council has donated a dozen boxes of clothing to the 46 elderly evacuees from the Rozas de Puerto Real and San Martín de Valdeiglesias residences, currently housed at the Valdeluz centre.
The Tres Cantos City Council has delivered a dozen boxes of clothing to the 46 elderly evacuees from the residences affected by the forest fires in Sierra Oeste, who remain at the Valdeluz social health centre in the locality.
Professionals at the centre had communicated the need for textile materials for these individuals, who come from the residences of Rozas de Puerto Real and San Martín de Valdeiglesias, two of the municipalities hardest hit by the fire. The Councillor for Family and Equality, Sonia Lolo, has expressed gratitude for the quick response from the collaborating entities: the San Camilo Assistance Centre, Cáritas from the Santa María Madre de Dios parish, and the Alcampo hypermarket.
Lolo emphasised that this donation “represents much more than just clothing; it symbolises the affection, empathy, and commitment of the entire municipality” towards those who have had to leave their homes due to the fire that has ravaged the western area of the region.
The Mayor of Tres Cantos, Jesús Moreno, has reminded that the City Council remains at the disposal of the Community of Madrid to provide all necessary logistics, means, and municipal resources to assist the affected individuals. At the same time, he has sent a message of solidarity to all those impacted.
A large portion of the evacuees are elderly individuals with a high degree of dependency and ongoing healthcare needs. The Family and Equality department has highlighted the personalised care they receive thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Valdeluz centre staff and the emergency services set up.
The accommodation of these elderly individuals in Tres Cantos is part of the response from the Community of Madrid to the forest fires that have affected the Sierra Oeste. The Tres Cantos City Council has been fully committed from the very beginning, offering its facilities and resources to house the evacuees.
The fires, which began last week, have forced the evacuation of several towns and have devastated thousands of hectares of forest land. The rapid mobilization of resources has allowed for the containment of the flames, although the emergency remains active in some areas.
For the residents of Tres Cantos, this initiative represents a show of solidarity with neighbouring municipalities. The City Council has encouraged citizens to continue contributing with material donations if necessary, through the channels set up by Social Services.
The clothing delivery adds to other support actions, such as the provision of municipal spaces and coordination with health services to ensure care for the evacuees. The Valdeluz centre, specialised in long-term care, has strengthened its staff to attend to the new temporary residents.
The City Council has assured that they will remain attentive to any needs that may arise in the coming weeks, while the affected individuals may return to their homes or a definitive solution is sought.
