The City Council of Tres Cantos and the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) are bringing university micro-credentials to the municipality, a brief and specialised training for professionals. The first edition, focused on Aerospace Law, will begin in the last quarter of the year.
The City Council of Tres Cantos and the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) have launched a pioneering collaboration to bring university micro-credentials to the municipality, a format of brief and highly specialised training aimed at active professionals. The first of these training proposals will focus on Aerospace Law and is expected to commence in the last quarter of 2026.
The initiative has been jointly promoted by the Department of Economic Development and Employment and the Department of Education, and is supported by the Council's status as a founding member of the Autonomous University of Madrid Foundation (FUAM). The City Council highlights that this is the first time that micro-credentials, a model of learning aimed at professional updating, are coming directly to Tres Cantos.
The Aerospace Law micro-credential is designed for professionals in the sector to gain in-depth knowledge of the national, European, and international legal framework regulating space activities. As explained by the councillor for Economic Development and Employment, Ana Isabel Pérez, the programme will provide tools to "anticipate potential legal risks, make informed decisions, and add legal value throughout all phases of the lifecycle of a space mission."
The training is particularly relevant at a time of transformation in the space sector, marked by the upcoming Space Activities Law and the proposal for European regulations on this matter. Tres Cantos is home to a significant number of leading and innovative companies in the aerospace sector that develop internationally recognised projects, making this training a useful tool for engineers, technicians, project managers, legal departments, compliance areas, or business development.
The format has been adapted to the needs of companies: it will last for 8 or 16 hours of in-person training, equivalent to 1 or 2 credits in the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). This facilitates compatibility with professional activity without compromising academic rigor or the quality of the content.
"It is a clear example of how collaboration between the university and the business fabric allows for the provision of highly specialised training tailored to the real needs of a strategic sector for Tres Cantos," Pérez emphasises.
Following this initial launch, the municipal objective is to promote new micro-credentials linked to other strategic sectors in the municipality. "Our goal is to bring university training closer to our companies and promote the ongoing updating of their professionals," the councillor indicates.
