The Tres Cantos City Council is undertaking improvement works in the nine public schools during the summer, with an investment of nearly 3 million euros, to have them ready by September.
The improvement works in the public schools of Tres Cantos are progressing well during the summer, taking advantage of the non-teaching period to carry out larger-scale interventions. The City Council has launched the 'Open for Holidays' programme, which allows for work to be carried out in the centres without interfering with teaching activities, aiming for all tasks to be completed before the start of the next school year.
The municipal investment allocated to these works amounts to nearly 3 million euros, in addition to another 900,000 euros from the Regional Investment Programme (PIR) of the Community of Madrid. Over the last five years, the municipal government has invested more than 13 million euros in the continuous improvement of the local education system.
One of the most notable projects is the comprehensive renovation of the Early Childhood Education pavilion at CEIP Carmen Hernández Guarch, where, for the first time in a public school in Tres Cantos, a climate control system using aerothermal energy with underfloor heating for both cooling and heating will be installed. The project also includes a new accessible entrance, the remodelling of the main lobby to enhance access control, and the installation of new drinking fountains.
At CEIP Antonio Osuna, the Primary pavilion is being completely renovated to reorganise and adapt teaching spaces to new educational needs. Additionally, improvements are being made to windows and other functional elements of the building. Meanwhile, CEIP Gabriel García Márquez is undergoing a thorough renovation of its central pavilion, which will create new administrative and educational spaces, as well as improve the school dining room and renew various structural and exterior elements of the centre.
The other public schools in the city are also receiving various types of interventions, such as updates to roofs, carpentry, playgrounds, sports courts, kitchens, and dining rooms, as well as the installation of new drinking fountains, canopies, and accessibility improvements.
Climate control, a priority
Of the 900,000 euros from the PIR, the City Council will allocate more than 400,000 euros to progressively improve the thermal conditions of classrooms, dining rooms, gyms, and other spaces, depending on the needs of each centre. The remaining 500,000 euros will be used for other specific interventions in the nine public schools.
The Councillor for Education, Marisa Peña, emphasised that “thanks to the significant investment effort by the City Council, the support of the Community of Madrid, and the ongoing coordination with the management staff of our centres, thousands of students will return in September to much more modern, efficient, accessible schools that are adapted to the real needs of current education.” Peña added that the goal is for “both students and teachers to have spaces prepared for the future, increasingly comfortable, safe, and functional, that promote learning and improve their daily lives.”
The works are being carried out during the summer months and are expected to conclude before the start of the next school year, which will begin in September.
