The Town Hall of Tres Cantos reminds that until further notice, dogs can be unleashed from 22:00 to 10:00 in designated areas, except for those considered potentially dangerous. It also insists that the canine DNA census is mandatory and the Local Police will conduct checks.
The Town Hall of Tres Cantos has called on dog owners to respect the special summer hours for dog recreation and comply with the mandatory registration in the municipal DNA census. This measure aims to ensure coexistence and maintain public spaces in good condition.
Officials remind that during the summer period, dogs can be unleashed between 22:00 and 10:00 hours in designated areas, always accompanied by a responsible person. This time frame does not apply to those considered potentially dangerous, which must always be on a leash and muzzled according to current regulations.
The spaces where this flexibility is allowed are the Antonio López Park, the park between numbers 8, 25 and 31 of the Pueblos Sector, and the parks of the Foresta, Islas, Embarcaciones and Parque Norte sectors, excluding children's play areas and other expressly prohibited areas. The semi-forest area of the Central Park is also included, except for the sections of the bike lane that run from the petanque area to Caléndula Street.
Additionally, there are unrestricted recreational areas in Parque Sur and Parque Este, as well as in the two fenced dog areas of Central Park (next to Enebro Street and behind the Gabriel Parellada Sports Centre) and in the agility facilities of Central Park and Parque de las Siete Leguas.
Improvements in dog areas
The Town Hall continues with a plan for improvement and maintenance of dog areas during the summer, with special attention to the Central Park area, the most used, and the Parque de las Siete Leguas area. The actions include renewing signage, reviewing furniture, lighting and fencing, pruning and conditioning, and renewing picnic tables and umbrellas, as explained by the Public Services Councillor, Pedro Fernández.
New dog-friendly drinking fountains have also been acquired, which will be installed starting in September. The acting mayor, María del Mar Sánchez, emphasizes that Tres Cantos has a wide network of spaces for animal welfare and that reminding the rules helps to enjoy them safely and respectfully.
Mandatory canine DNA registration
The canine DNA census is mandatory according to the Municipal Regulatory Ordinance on Animal Ownership. The procedure involves taking a saliva sample with a swab, which is painless for the animal, and is complemented by an identification tag with a QR code. The cost is 40 euros and can be done by appointment at any authorized veterinary clinic in the city.
The Public Health Councillor, Mario Arancón, highlights that this system facilitates the location of lost pets and promotes responsible coexistence. Therefore, the Local Police will carry out checks throughout the city and those who have not registered their dogs may be sanctioned in accordance with the ordinance.
For residents who have not yet registered their dog, it is advisable to make an appointment as soon as possible at a collaborating veterinary clinic. The process is quick and avoids potential fines.
