From August 13 to 16, the gardens of Las Vistillas and the Plaza de la Paja will host the Virgen de la Paloma festival, featuring concerts, religious events and traditional contests.
The Virgen de la Paloma festival will be the grand finale of the celebrations in the Centro district. From August 13 to 16, the La Latina neighbourhood will once again become the epicentre of one of the most traditional celebrations of Madrid's summer, concluding the festive trio that includes San Cayetano and San Lorenzo.
The gardens of Las Vistillas and the Plaza de la Paja will be the main stages for a programme that combines music, tradition and activities for all audiences. The streets of the neighbourhood will also host proposals organised by local associations and hospitality businesses to maintain the festive atmosphere throughout the celebration.
The musical line-up is headed by Celtas Cortos, who will perform on Thursday, August 13, at Las Vistillas. This will be followed by an 80s-themed party featuring Los Refrescos, Modestia Aparte and Fernandisco; the concert by Depol coinciding with the main day, and the performance by Miss Caffeina on Sunday, August 16.
In the Plaza de la Paja, there will be live music with the Orquesta Tucán, Eva Martí, Karavana and the Fiesta Roneo Brunch, along with DJ sessions at the end of each day. The offer is completed with children's workshops, chotis contests, pasodobles, fans and Manila shawls, traditional vermouths and traditional activities.
Highly anticipated events such as the International Castizo Mus Championship, parchís and checkers tournaments in Cava Baja, organillo exhibitions, a popular chocolate event, waiter and high heel races, and the distribution of lemonade will not be missed.
The most emotional moment will come on Saturday, August 15, the feast day of the Virgen de la Paloma. The day will begin with a floral offering in front of the La Salle-La Paloma School and a solemn mass at the Paloma church. This will be followed by one of the most emblematic events: the lowering of the Virgin's painting by a group of firefighters from the Madrid City Council.
In the afternoon, the image will parade through the streets of the neighbourhood in the traditional procession, a route that each year gathers thousands of locals and visitors. The festivities will conclude on Sunday, August 16, with a performance by Miss Caffeina, thus closing four days of celebration in the heart of Madrid.
