The San Cayetano festivities begin on August 4th in the Centro district, with a special operation in Embajadores and La Latina. The opening speech will be given by Paloma Miravet, head of SAMUR-Protection Civil.

The Centro district of Madrid inaugurates this Tuesday the August verbena cycle with the San Cayetano festivities, which will be held from August 4th to 7th. The head of the SAMUR-Protection Civil Organisation Unit, Paloma Miravet, will be in charge of delivering the opening speech from the General Vara del Rey square, a gesture with which the City Council aims to highlight social work and citizen involvement in the heart of the city.

The security and traffic operation will be deployed in the areas of Embajadores and La Latina, where the main events will be concentrated. The celebrations will continue with San Lorenzo (from August 8th to 11th) and culminate with the Virgen de la Paloma (from August 13th to 16th), with spaces spread across the central area so that attendees can access all events for free.

The venues for each festival are as follows: San Cayetano takes place in the General Vara del Rey square and its surroundings; San Lorenzo moves to Arturo Barea square and the area around the temple; and La Paloma occupies the Vistillas park and Plaza de la Paja. Entry to concerts and workshops is free in all cases.

To avoid congestion in the historic centre, municipal officials recommend using public transport. The nearest metro stops are La Latina (Line 5) and Lavapiés (Line 3), which provide direct access to the festive areas.

The organisation of these verbena events required prior administrative management. The City Council tendered the coordination of the fair space for the entire period, from August 4th to 16th, for an amount of 189,174.45 euros. Bars and restaurants interested in setting up temporary terraces on the street had to apply for this between May 26th and June 9th through the municipal electronic headquarters.

To obtain these permits, establishments had to present a valid activity license, a current civil liability insurance policy, and proof of the last payment of that policy. The monitoring of these counters and the occupation of public space will be carried out daily, with special attention to keeping emergency exits clear in the district.

Residents and visitors wishing to enjoy the verbena events should keep in mind that the bulk of the programming is concentrated in the afternoon and evening, and that traffic disruptions will mainly affect the streets adjacent to the main squares. It is recommended to check the official schedules on the municipal website before attending.
