The capital has been celebrating the Virgin of the Paloma festival since this Thursday with street parties, concerts, and the traditional procession on Saturday.
The area of Las Vistillas, Plaza de la Paja, and the streets of La Latina will become the epicentre of the Virgin of the Paloma festival from this Thursday until Sunday. The programme includes concerts by Celtas Cortos, DePol, and Miss Caffeina, as well as street parties, competitions, and children's activities.
The festivities kick off at 11:00 with the traditional chocolatada castiza on Calle Calatrava, followed by a sack race. Throughout the four days, Calle Cava Baja will host championships of parchís and checkers, while Plaza de la Paja will offer children's workshops and a chotis competition in the afternoons.
The opening of the major concerts will be by Celtas Cortos, who will perform at 21:30 in the Jardines de Las Vistillas. On Friday, the same location will host the 'Back to the 80s' night with Los Refrescos, Modestia Aparte, and Fernandisco, while Plaza de la Paja will celebrate 'Back to the 90s' with Eva Martí.
Saturday is the main day. At 12:45, there will be a floral offering at Colegio La Salle-La Paloma, followed by a solemn mass at 13:00. Afterwards, the Madrid Firefighters will perform the iconic lowering of the Virgin's painting, and at 20:00, the image will parade through the neighbourhood in procession. That night, DePol will perform at 21:30 in Las Vistillas.
Sunday will conclude with a traditional vermouth and a children's drinking competition using a pitcher in Plaza de la Paja. The musical closure will arrive at 21:30 with Miss Caffeina in Las Vistillas and Karavana in Plaza de la Paja, followed by DJs El Pulpo and DJ Tama until dawn.
Residents and visitors will be able to enjoy the traditional atmosphere with chotis and chulapo costumes, and the little ones will have their children's costume competition. The festivities, organised by the Centro district, close the festive calendar of August in the capital.
