The Community of Madrid approves a campaign to reactivate tourism in the municipalities affected by the fire and allocates €15,000 for social emergency.

The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, chaired the first meeting of the Commission for the Reconstruction of the Sierra Oeste on Tuesday, held at the Town Hall of Aldea del Fresno. The meeting served to approve a promotional campaign for the municipalities affected by the fires, aimed at encouraging visits and tourism activity in the area.

The regional government has also allocated an extraordinary credit of up to €15,000 for the Mancomunidad de Los Pinares, intended to address the immediate social emergency needs of the affected individuals. This entity includes Aldea del Fresno, Cadalso de los Vidrios, Cenicientos, Chapinería, Colmenar del Arroyo, Pelayos de la Presa, Rozas de Puerto Real, San Martín de Valdeiglesias, and Villa del Prado.

The Commission has also agreed to continue promoting measures to reactivate economic activity, especially in the municipalities and businesses around the Pantano de San Juan, one of the areas hardest hit by the fire. The promotional campaign adds to the operational measures already deployed on the ground.

Vehicles and machinery for the municipalities

During the meeting, it was reported that at least 17 pick-up trucks and brush-cutting machines will be available to the affected municipalities through an emergency contract. This service will allow each municipality to have the off-road vehicles they need, for as long as they require and at no cost, including delivery and collection, insurance, maintenance, roadside assistance, and replacement in case of breakdown.

The operation, which Díaz Ayuso later supervised in the town of Navalagamella, includes more than 500 service days during the first month. The vehicles will be used for street cleaning, removal of plant debris and burned materials, transportation of belongings, and support for municipal brigades and emergency teams that continue to work in the area.

This action adds to the extensive operation already activated through the Reserve Fund of the Regional Investment Plan, which has allowed for the removal of more than 1,687 cubic meters of belongings and debris (equivalent to 281 containers) and 3,567 cubic meters of plant waste (equivalent to 601 containers). Additionally, 102 extra containers have been installed, 118 bins replenished, and more than twenty machines and trucks made available to municipalities to expedite reconstruction efforts.

A commission with weekly follow-up

The Interdepartmental Commission for the Reconstruction of the Sierra Oeste is made up of deputy councillors and technical secretaries general from regional departments. Its aim is to develop and monitor recovery measures for the area, coordinate the actions of the ministries, and ensure a joint response to the damages identified in the preliminary report. To date, 88% of the first 43 measures implemented have already been developed or are underway.

The body will meet weekly and whenever convened by its president or requested by at least one third of its members. It may also establish sectoral working groups and invite experts and technical officials when the nature of the issues requires it.

Its initial duration will be one year, extendable for another year, although it will be dissolved once the work is completed and the objectives for which it was created are achieved. Its operation will not incur any increase in public spending, and its members will not receive any remuneration for performing these functions.
