Around 340 Local Police officers will ensure safety during the ten days of festivities, starting this Friday, August 7, at the Fairgrounds.
The Leganés City Council presented on Tuesday the security and cleaning plan that will be operational during the patronal festivals in honour of Our Lady of Butarque, which begin this Friday, August 7, and will last until Sunday, August 16. In total, 340 Local Police officers will patrol the streets of the municipality to ensure that the celebrations proceed without incidents.
The Councillor for Citizen Security, Almudena González, explained that the deployment includes, for the second consecutive year, a video surveillance system both at the Fairgrounds and in the area of the Bullring, with eight cameras in La Cubierta and twelve additional ones at the fairgrounds. These devices will allow monitoring of capacity and detection of illegal activities.
Additionally, TASER devices, used exclusively by authorised officers, and a drone team for surveillance tasks will be maintained. The operation will be complemented by a field hospital with five operational beds and six medicalised ambulances for first response throughout the festival.
The number of officers remains the same as last year, but the PP and ULEG government team reminds that since 2023, the deployment has increased by 240% compared to previous years. As a new feature, a Violet Point will be set up on AC/DC street to provide information and comprehensive assistance regarding gender violence.
The Security Councillor emphasised that "safety is a priority for this Government" and noted that "crime rates" support their management. She also highlighted that the festivals pose "a challenge due to the concentration of thousands of people in very specific spaces."
Regarding cleaning, the Councillor for the Environment, Violeta Bonet, detailed that the plan will include 216 days of labourers, 74 of drivers, and 26 of specialist labourers. The work will be carried out with two electric pick-up trucks, two sweepers, four pressure washers, two open-box vehicles, and two rear-loading waste collection trucks and two side-loading ones.
Bonet stated that "we have adapted the shifts and schedules of the cleaning plan to the festival programme" and that this year the personnel and material resources have been increased thanks to the new cleaning contract. Waste containers will also be installed at various points requested by the Festivities Delegation.
The cleaning will be organised in two phases: special services prior to and during the festivals, coordinated with ordinary services. The aim is to keep urban roads and public spaces in optimal condition during and after the festive events.
The festivities will begin on Friday, August 7, with the opening of attractions at the Fairgrounds, and the bulk of the programme will take place until Sunday, August 16. Residents attending will be able to enjoy the activities with the peace of mind of having a comprehensive security and cleaning operation in place.
