Miguel Ángel Recuenco has sent a letter of thanks to the volunteers and the 24 companies that collaborated during the six days that the La Cantera pavilion housed those affected by the fires.
The Mayor of Leganés, Miguel Ángel Recuenco, sent a letter of thanks on Wednesday to the Civil Protection Group and the entities that collaborated to assist the nearly 200 people rehoused in the municipal pavilion of La Cantera after the fires that affected the region and the province of Ávila.
The City Council made this space available for six days to provide shelter to the victims, who received breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, as well as basic necessities and essential products for the elderly and children. In the letter, the mayor highlights the “exemplary commitment” of the volunteers and the companies that made altruistic donations.
“The prepared meals, the donations made, and every hour voluntarily shared with the 200 rehoused people have been much more than material help. They have represented a message of hope, companionship, and reassurance for those who were going through moments of uncertainty and difficulty and who found, thanks to you, an unexpected home in Leganés,” reflects the mayor in the letter.
Recuenco emphasizes that “this commitment, born of generosity and a sense of service to others, constitutes one of the noblest expressions of one of the great hallmarks of Leganés, solidarity.” He also thanks the agents of the Local Police and the National Police for their “professionalism” in the operation deployed at the pavilion.
The list of collaborating companies includes 24 names, among them major supermarket and restaurant chains such as Alcampo, Aldi, Coca Cola, Ikea, Lidl, Makro, McDonald’s, Mercadona, and Telepizza, as well as local shops and businesses like Bar Avenida, Restaurante Butarque, Restaurante Changó, and Ruipan. Afrika, Ahorramas, Alcahuz Distribución, Comaybel, Domino’s Pizza, Family Cash, Ilunion, Matías Martínez, Megino, and Sambil also joined in.
The letter, sent on behalf of the City Council, acknowledges the effort of all those who contributed “with your time, resources, and effort” to ensure that the affected individuals could face this situation “with the dignity and support they deserved.” The mayor conveys the “deepest” recognition to those who made it possible for the victims to find “an unexpected home” in the town.
