Two forest fires near the train tracks have forced the suspension of several Cercanías lines in the west and east of Madrid, affecting thousands of travellers.
The operation of several Cercanías Madrid lines has been severely affected this Monday by two fires declared near the railway infrastructure. The first, in the Henares corridor, and the second, between Las Rozas and Pozuelo de Alarcón, have forced the suspension of rail traffic on different sections of the network.
In the west zone, the fire declared between the stations of Las Rozas and Pozuelo has caused the interruption of the C-7 and C-10 lines, due to the proximity of the flames to the tracks. The incident directly affects users who daily use this railway corridor to travel between the northwest of the region and the centre of Madrid.
Second Fire in Vicálvaro and Santa Eugenia
Meanwhile, a second fire recorded between Vicálvaro and Santa Eugenia has forced the suspension of circulation between Coslada and Vallecas, affecting the C-2, C-7 and C-8 lines. Trains originating or destined for Guadalajara are being diverted from Chamartín station, stopping at Fuente de la Mora and San Fernando de Henares before continuing their journey.
To reduce the impact on travellers, Cercanías Madrid has enabled shuttle trains between Coslada and Alcalá de Henares, in both directions, as well as another special service between Atocha and Vallecas. Residents of Pozuelo and Las Rozas should expect longer travel times and seek alternatives such as intercity buses.
Extreme Fire Risk in the Community of Madrid
The incident occurs on a day marked by the high risk of fires in the Community of Madrid. Specifically, the region has suspended the use of machinery that could generate sparks in forest areas and their surroundings since this Tuesday due to the episode of high temperatures and the extreme fire risk outlined in the INFOMA Plan.
For the moment, Adif is working to restore circulation as soon as safety conditions allow, although it has not communicated a forecast regarding the reopening of the affected sections. Travellers should consult the official Cercanías channels to know the updated status of the lines.
