The Community of Madrid has awarded the Pozuelo Swimming Club in the inclusive sport category of the 2024 and 2025 Seven Stars Sports Awards. The City Council promoted the entity's candidacy.
The Pozuelo Swimming Club has been distinguished with one of the Seven Stars Sports Awards granted by the Community of Madrid, in its inclusive sport category, corresponding to the 2024 and 2025 editions. The Pozuelo de Alarcón City Council was the one who presented and defended the entity's candidacy, as reported by the City Council.
The award recognises the work of the entity, where swimmers with and without disabilities coexist, share spaces, and train under the same philosophy, as highlighted by the municipal government team. The Pozuelo Swimming Club celebrates this recognition in its 40th anniversary, as it was founded to provide competitive continuity to students of the municipal school once they completed the basic training stage.
The entity currently has around 260 athletes, including a dozen with some degree of disability. It maintains a collaboration agreement with the City Council, which provides part of its facilities in the municipal sports centres of El Torreón and Valle de las Cañas.
This edition of the awards also honoured former basketball player Sergio 'Chacho' Rodríguez, MotoGP riders Marc and Álex Márquez, tennis player Rafa Jódar, athletes María Pérez and Blanca Hervás, and footballer Vicky López. The FEDDIG2008 Association was also recognised in the same inclusive sport category.
The Sports Councillor of Pozuelo, Luis Magide, stated that “it is a source of pride for Pozuelo that one of our clubs is a key player in these prestigious awards and that the City Council has been actively involved in presenting and defending that candidacy.” For her part, the Councillor for Family and Disability, Eva Cabello, added that “we are particularly excited that Pozuelo shines in these awards thanks to inclusive sport, which we are so committed to and which is a hallmark of our municipality.”
With these awards, the Community of Madrid recognises individuals and entities that stand out in promoting, fostering, and developing sport in the region in one of the nine categories that are awarded. For Pozuelo, this recognition represents a new boost to its commitment to sport as a tool for social integration.
