Paloma Tejero visited on Wednesday the residents of Cenicientos housed in the Daniela Kaiser pavilion since Saturday. The City Council has prepared the venue to accommodate up to 100 people.
The Mayor of Pozuelo de Alarcón, Paloma Tejero, visited on Wednesday the 38 evacuees from Cenicientos who have been at the Daniela Kaiser pavilion in the Valle de las Cañas sports city since Saturday. The residents were evacuated due to the fires affecting the western sierra of the Community of Madrid.
The mayor had already supervised the preparations of the operation set up by the Municipal and National Police, the Emergency Service of the Pozuelo City Council (SEAPA), Civil Protection, and municipal workers on Friday. The venue was initially set up to accommodate around a hundred elderly people from a residence in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, although this was ultimately unnecessary and it became available for the victims from Cenicientos.
During the visit, Tejero spoke with several families, who thanked her for the treatment received since their arrival. Among those accommodated are about ten minors, who have been integrated into the summer camps at Valle de las Cañas, in addition to having television and games to make their stay more enjoyable, a measure that their parents have particularly appreciated.
Civic and business solidarity
The mayor highlighted the solidarity response that began on Friday: individuals and companies such as Hipercor in Pozuelo and Secoe have provided food and supplies, while the Army, Puerta de Hierro Hospital, Red Cross, and the City Council of Boadilla del Monte have collaborated with resources. Places have also been offered in the Cristo Rey residence, and direct contact is being maintained with the Cenicientos council.
Anonymous residents have brought food for pets — among the evacuees are two dogs and a cat — clothing for the elderly, and diapers for small children. Tejero also thanked the offers of help spread through social media, although she noted that for the moment there are enough people and resources to assist these 38 residents.
The Mobile Citizen Attention Office of the Community of Madrid has visited the pavilion on Tuesday and Wednesday to provide psychological assistance to those affected who need it, a service that is also offered at other reception points in the region.
The evacuees will remain in the municipal facilities as long as the emergency lasts. The Pozuelo City Council has guaranteed that it will keep the operation active until the authorities allow the return to Cenicientos.
