The Municipal Consumer Information Office (OMIC) of Majadahonda will return in September to its original location in the arcades of Plaza Mayor, next to the General Registry, to centralise procedures and avoid travel for citizens.

The Majadahonda City Council has announced the return of the Municipal Consumer Information Office (OMIC) to its historic headquarters in the arcades of Plaza Mayor, a change that will take effect from next September. The service, which has until now been provided at the municipal facilities at Avenida Guadarrama number 34, will share space with the General Registry, allowing residents to carry out procedures related to complaints and other tasks in one location, avoiding trips to two different centres.

According to municipal sources, the move aims to optimise the efficiency of public service and make life easier for citizens, who will be able to resolve their inquiries and file complaints more swiftly. The OMIC is a free service providing information, training, guidance, and mediation aimed at individual consumers, with a scope limited to the municipal term of Majadahonda.

Over the past year, the office has handled a total of 870 inquiries, a figure that reflects the constant increase in demand since the implementation of the Unified Complaints System of the Community of Madrid. So far in 2025, the OMIC has opened and managed 635 files for complaints, averaging more than two files daily.

The service is provided in person, by phone, and via email. Citizens can continue to contact the OMIC through the phone number 916349107 and the email address consumo@majadahonda.org. The new location, in addition to improving accessibility, will free up the space it occupied on Avenida Guadarrama, which will be allocated for other municipal uses.

The City Council has reminded that the OMIC operates exclusively at the local level, so complaints against companies or establishments located outside of Majadahonda should be directed to the competent consumer services of the Community of Madrid or other administrations. Additionally, matters that fall under the jurisdiction of the Courts of Justice, such as compensation for damages, are outside its competence.

The return to Plaza Mayor also means the relocation of the municipal group that occupied those premises, which will move to the first floor of the Town Hall, alongside the other political groups. In this way, the City Council unifies all political activity in a single building, while the OMIC gains centrality and visibility for residents.

The OMIC plays a key role in defending consumer rights: it informs and guides individuals about their rights, provides training on consumer issues, receives complaints and reports, offers support in processing them, and, in some cases, mediates between parties to achieve a voluntary resolution of conflicts. It is, therefore, an essential resource for residents facing problems with purchases, services, or contracts.

The City Council hopes that the new, more central and accessible location will help increase the number of inquiries and complaints handled, improving citizen satisfaction. Interested parties will be able to visit without an appointment starting in September, during public hours that will be communicated soon.
