The City Council of Majadahonda will hold a memorial event on Monday for the councillor murdered by ETA, featuring a manifesto reading, floral offering, and a minute of silence.

The City Council of Majadahonda has organised a tribute to Miguel Ángel Blanco on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of his assassination by ETA. The event will take place this Monday at 10:00 am at La Rosaleda de las Víctimas del Terrorismo, located on Avenida de España, as reported by the Council in a statement.

The mayor, Lola Moreno, will attend the event alongside representatives from municipal political groups and residents. Under the slogan 'Your legacy commits us', the spokespersons will read a manifesto prepared by the Miguel Ángel Blanco Foundation to commemorate the figure of the Ermua councillor.

Floral offering and prayer in memory of the victims

After the reading of the manifesto, attendees will lay a laurel wreath at the monolith that commemorates all victims of terrorism. The parish priest of the Church of Santa Catalina Mártir, Juan Francisco Pérez Ruano, will offer a prayer in memory of Blanco and all those who have died due to terrorist violence.

The event will conclude with a minute of silence and musical accompaniment by the teachers of the Municipal School of Music of Majadahonda. Residents who wish to join are invited to come to La Rosaleda to show their respect and solidarity.

Donation of books to IES José Saramago

The Miguel Ángel Blanco Foundation has taken advantage of the anniversary to make a donation of books to IES José Saramago in the municipality. The aim, according to the organisation, is for students and teachers to "know and convey the history of the victims and the fight against terrorism in Spain".

Additionally, the Francisco Umbral Municipal Library has joined the project 'Miguel Ángel Blanco Space, memory of the Spanish terrorism victims'. This initiative, promoted by the foundation, seeks to promote "reflection, study, awareness, and permanent tribute" to the victims. So far, around a hundred libraries and public centres are participating in the network, which provides citizens with bibliographic, videographic materials and activities against radicalisation.

For the residents of Majadahonda, this tribute represents an opportunity to remember Blanco's sacrifice and reaffirm the commitment to coexistence and democratic memory. The event, open to the public, will be held in a space specifically dedicated to the victims of terrorism, a meeting place for collective reflection.
