A fire in the extractor hood of the Club Virgen de Iciar restaurant, in Majadahonda, forced the evacuation of the premises on Tuesday night. Employees prevented the spread and the damage was limited to the grill, which has already been repaired.

The smoke extractor hood of the Club Virgen de Iciar restaurant, in Majadahonda, caught fire on the night of Tuesday, July 21, around 21:30, prompting the evacuation of the premises and mobilising emergency services. The incident, which caused some alarm among neighbours, resulted in no injuries and minimal material damage, according to sources from the club.

A fire brigade and three patrols from the Majadahonda Local Police arrived at the scene after receiving the alert. However, the quick intervention of the restaurant employees managed to contain the flames before they spread. The fire was confined to the grill area, which suffered damage but could be repaired the next day.

The restaurant's chef, Víctor Hernández, who was on holiday in Portugal at the time of the incident, stated that “it was just a scare.” Hernández explained that the damage was “exclusively to the grill” and that the establishment returned to normal immediately, reopening its doors the following day with its usual summer menu.

The deployment of personnel, which included a temporary traffic closure in the vicinity, made neighbours fear a larger disaster. However, in about an hour the situation was under control and traffic was restored without further incidents.

The Club Virgen de Iciar restaurant is one of the gastronomic references in Majadahonda, known for its terrace, its summer menu featuring an emphasis on fish, and its popular cheesecake. Chef Hernández, at the helm of the establishment, has managed to consolidate a loyal clientele that values the quality-price ratio.

The incident has not affected the club's programming or other facilities, and the restaurant has been operating normally since Wednesday. Club officials have thanked the quick action of the employees and the cooperation of emergency services.

Such incidents, although dramatic, are relatively common in the hospitality industry due to the intensive use of extractor hoods and cooking systems. Prevention and regular maintenance are key to avoiding greater damage, according to industry sources.

For the residents of Majadahonda, the scare became an anecdote and the restaurant resumed its activity without further setbacks. The club continues to offer its summer menu, which includes seasonal dishes and its famous cheesecake, which has many fans.
