The Tres Cantos Town Hall keeps the municipal programme 'Safe Holidays' operational, allowing residents to deposit their home or business keys with the Local Police for quick intervention in case of emergency.
Residents of Tres Cantos planning to go on holiday this summer have a free resource to keep their home or business protected. The Town Hall has reminded that the 'Safe Holidays' programme, promoted by the Department of Security, remains active 24 hours a day until September 30.
The initiative allows residents to voluntarily deposit a set of keys for their home or commercial premises at the Local Police station, located at Avenida de los Montes, 1. This way, if an emergency occurs during the owner's absence that requires access to the property, officers can intervene immediately and contact the owner.
The keys are stored in sealed envelopes under strict security and confidentiality measures, as explained by the Town Hall. They are only used when absolutely necessary, making the service a preventive measure that speeds up police action in case of any incidents while the owners are out of the municipality.
The first deputy mayor and councillor for Security, Javier Juárez, emphasised that “with this service, we want to provide the residents of Tres Cantos with a tool that allows them to enjoy their holidays knowing that, if any unforeseen event arises, the Local Police can act quickly and effectively.” Juárez described the programme as “free, useful, and well-established,” highlighting that each summer it helps to enhance the security of homes and businesses in the city.
To join, simply go to the Local Police station, fill out a form with personal and contact details, and hand over the set of keys. Registration can be done throughout the entire period the service is operational, which will remain active until the end of September.
In addition to this programme, the Town Hall recommends adopting basic self-protection measures before travelling: ensuring that doors and windows are securely closed, not leaving visible signs of prolonged absence, and asking a trusted person to collect mail or check on the property periodically. These simple guidelines, along with 'Safe Holidays', help to increase security during summer travel.
The programme is also reactivated at other times of the year, such as Christmas or Easter, with the same aim of protecting properties when owners are away for several days. Interested parties can obtain more information or formalise their registration directly at the Tres Cantos Local Police station.
The initiative has been running for several years and has become a regular resource among residents. The Town Hall encourages citizens to use this free service, especially during the summer months when many residents travel to second homes or take long trips.
The Local Police remind that, in addition to key custody, the service includes immediate notification to the owner in case of any incident and the possibility of contacting family members or trusted individuals in case of emergency. All of this is done with the utmost discretion and security in handling the data and deposited keys.
