The Escenas de Verano Festival of the Community of Madrid kicks off August with theatre, open-air cinema, classical music, and circus in dozens of municipalities. The programme includes performances for all audiences in public and cultural spaces across the region.
The Escenas de Verano Festival, promoted by the Community of Madrid, unveils its August programme with over twenty scenic, musical, and cinematic proposals in various municipalities of the region. Now in its seventh edition, the initiative aims to bring culture to every corner of the Community of Madrid during the summer months.
The offer begins on Friday, July 31, with the Performing Arts in Municipalities cycle. The company La Troupe Malabó will present Eirené in Torrelaguna, while Cal y Canto will bring The Wind Garden to Pedrezuela and Cía La Buffa will perform Ni fú ni fá in Olmeda de las Fuentes. All performances are free and designed for a family audience.
On Saturday, August 1, Eirené will be repeated in Hoyo de Manzanares, The Wind Garden in Velilla de San Antonio, and Ni fú ni fá in Zarzalejo. Additionally, La Roca Producciones will stage Zozobra in Lozoya, and Suakai will take to the streets of Patones with Music in Every Corner. On Sunday, performances will continue in Canencia, Valdaracete, Serranillos del Valle, and Puentes Viejas, among others.
The Summer Cinema cycle also returns with open-air screenings in numerous municipalities. The programme includes titles such as Jurassic World: Dominion, Mufasa: The Lion King, Lilo and Stitch, Paddington: Jungle Adventure, Rondallas, Sorda, Los domingos, El casoplón, Maspalomas, and The Dinner. A mix of family films, major premieres, and Spanish productions.
Classical music also has its place with the Classics in Summer cycle. On Thursday, Concierto Poético will present Lights and Shadows, and on Friday, Ernesto Schmied & Carlos Wernicke will perform Bach and Other Sonic Labyrinths. The duo of Pablo Zapico and Daniel Zapico will perform on Friday in Robledillo de la Jara and on Sunday in Venturada-Cotos de Monterrey, reviving works by Filippo Dalla Casa and Antonino Reggio.
On Saturday, Arco Vivo will perform Chiacchierando tra violoncelli in Becerril de la Sierra, and on Sunday in Robledo de Chavela, a journey through the evolution of the cello in 17th and 18th century Italy.
The Sierra Norte Regional Centre for Humanities, in La Cabrera, will join in with an open-air cinema session of Paddington: Jungle Adventure and a show from the Cirqueando Festival, presented by the company 3 NOTAS with their work Overture.
In the capital, Santander Park will host the Veranos en el Parque initiative until August 29, with free access. This week features a performance by Circo Psikario, celebrating its 20th anniversary with What Nonsense!, a street show for all audiences.
The Picasso Museum-Eugenio Arias Collection, in Buitrago del Lozoya, is organising summer workshops for families. On Saturday, August 1, the session Picasso Behind the Scenes: Theatre, Ballet, and Circus: Habited Spaces invites participants to explore the work of the Málaga artist for theatrical companies.
Additionally, the cultural centres of the Community of Madrid are hosting free exhibitions. In the Alcalá 31 Hall, Modern Mythologies: Ouka Leele & Co revisits the role of mythology in Madrid's art of the eighties. The Regional Library hosts A Journey to the Sea of Shadow. Knights of Saltpeter, and the Cristóbal Portillo Hall presents Madrid Under Construction, 1940-1985.
Other open exhibitions include Women of Ingenuity at the Casa Museo Lope de Vega, The Sky and the Earth by Antonio Ballester Moreno at CA2M, Saber-toothed Teeth at the Archaeological and Paleontological Museum, and With Cape and Sword. Fashion at the same centre.
