The Community of Madrid continues its summer cultural agenda with the fourth week of the Summer Scenes Festival, which includes classical music concerts in heritage sites, circus and street theatre, and the extension of Ana Locking's exhibition until September 27.
The fourth week of the Summer Scenes Festival, promoted by the Community of Madrid, features around thirty cultural activities across the region, with the Classics in Summer cycle as the main highlight. During the weekend, churches, monasteries, and other historic buildings in a dozen municipalities become stages for concerts of ancient, baroque, and chamber music.
Among the most notable events is the concert by the Akari Duo, which under the title Cello Squared will offer a journey through the repertoire for cello duos, from French baroque to contemporary Latin American music. The performance will take place on Sunday in the Cloister of the Monastery of the Immaculate Conception in Loeches, and previously in Garganta de los Montes-El Cuadrón.
The Harmonia del Parnàs ensemble will present Caprichos de Harmonia in Pinilla del Valle and Bustarviejo, with a programme that revisits the baroque repertoire from a creative perspective. Meanwhile, violinist María Martínez will perform A Solo in Gargantilla del Lozoya and Tielmes, showcasing representative works written for solo violin.
The cycle also includes Ayres del Barroco by Aylanto, at the Monastery of Santa María la Real de Valdeiglesias in Pelayos de la Presa, a musical journey exploring the evolution of European baroque through the dialogue between French and Italian traditions. Additionally, Following the Echoes of Corelli by Les Amusements will arrive in Torremocha del Jarama and La Acebeda.
Completing the offerings is the Váray-Sorozábal Duo, which will present Manuel de Falla and the Parisian Circle in Villarejo de Salvanés, a concert for violin and cello dedicated to the Cádiz composer and other Spanish creators linked to the artistic environment of early 20th century Paris.
In parallel, the Summer Scenes Festival brings theatre, circus, and street arts to squares and public spaces in numerous municipalities through the Performing Arts in Municipalities cycle. Among the proposals is Rodeo by La Banda de Otro, which humorously revisits the imagery of the American West with acrobatics and live music. The performance can be seen on Friday 24 in Daganzo, Saturday in Cenicientos, and Sunday in Madarcos.
The Alodeyá company will present Rube in Rascafría, Montejo de la Sierra, and Cobeña, a production that fuses dance, circus, music, and poetry. The Zero 10 Company will bring Ágatha, are you there? to Valdilecha, Valdetorres del Jarama, and Fresnedillas de la Oliva, while David Cebrián will perform WC in Estremera, a proposal of gestural theatre with clowning and visual humour.
The programme is rounded off with Zar-suela by Zigurat Band, which will pass through Villamanrique de Tajo, Morata de Tajuña, and Ambite, and with Little Magic Circus by La Fábrica de Sueños, which can be seen in Colmenar de Oreja and El Boalo.
Contemporary creation also has its space with the Living Art in the Square programme, which turns squares and streets into stages for participatory interventions in various localities. Additionally, the exhibition Ana Locking. Nostalgia / Utopia, at the Canal de Isabel II Hall, has been extended until September 27 after surpassing 50,000 visitors. The exhibition Modern Mythologies: Ouka Leele & Co continues at the Alcalá 31 Hall.
The agenda is completed with Summers in the Park, family activities at the Lope de Vega House Museum, workshops at the Picasso Museum-Eugenio Arias Collection, and a wide range of exhibitions in the region's museums and galleries.
