The City Council mobilised the Municipal and National Police following a resident's alert, but the officers ruled out the presence of a stable camp. They only identified a known homeless man in the area.
The Pozuelo de Alarcón City Council has denied the existence of an illegal settlement near the Pinar Prados school, on Avenida de Italia, after a resident reported the ongoing presence of people sleeping in the area. Municipal sources explained that both the Municipal Police and the National Police were dispatched to the location and agreed that there is no stable camp.
For a settlement to be considered, according to police criteria, there must be a stable occupation with tents, huts, or other permanent structures, a circumstance that does not occur in this location. The officers do have a known homeless man who frequently visits the area and whose situation is known to the Municipal Police.
The original complaint, sent via email to the City Council, warned of the repeated presence of people sleeping at the junction of Avenida de Italia and Calle Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo. The resident requested urgent intervention from both a public safety and social services perspective, considering that the situation was causing concern among local families.
In the letter, the resident recounted a recent episode in which a woman was found sleeping at her front door, prompting her to call the Police. The communication reflected a sense of insecurity and called for a coordinated action to address the situation.
However, after a phone call with the complainant on Friday afternoon, the City Council claims that the initial account was clarified. According to municipal sources, the reference to a supposed settlement with numerous people was narrowed down to the occasional presence of one person observed by her daughter from a bus and the existence of the already known homeless man.
The City Council insists that the situation described in the letter does not correspond to the reality confirmed by the officers dispatched to the location. Nevertheless, the Municipal Police continues to monitor the area and keeps track of the identified homeless man.
So far, there is no record of any administrative action related to a permanent settlement in this area. The City Council emphasises that the response has been immediate and that the necessary resources have been activated to verify the facts, although the outcome rules out the existence of an illegal camp.
This episode reflects the sensitivity of Pozuelo residents towards the presence of homeless people in the municipality, a reality that, according to municipal sources, is known and monitored by social services. The City Council reminds that any incident can be reported through official channels to be addressed by the corresponding teams.
