The Community of Madrid records the highest number of employed in its history, with 3,631,300 people, according to the Q2 EPA. Unemployment falls to 7.6%, the lowest level since 2008.
The Community of Madrid has reached the highest number of employed in its entire history, with 3,631,300 people, according to data from the Active Population Survey (EPA) for the second quarter of the year, published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Compared to the previous quarter, employment has grown by 62,100 people, representing an increase of 1.7%. The region thus consolidates a labour model that, according to the regional government, attracts activity, generates employment, and reduces unemployment.
The number of unemployed has decreased by 2.9% compared to the first three months of the year, with 8,800 fewer unemployed, now standing at 297,900 people. This is the lowest figure for a second quarter since 2008. The unemployment rate remains at 7.6%, well below the national average of 9.9%.
Moreover, the jobs created in the region are of high quality: 88.5% of employees have permanent contracts, 3.6 percentage points above the national average. This figure reflects greater contractual stability in the Madrid labour market.
Youth unemployment has also seen significant improvement. It has decreased by more than two points compared to the previous quarter, now standing at 19.8%, four points below the national average. As for female unemployment, it has fallen to 8.6%, 2.4 points lower than the national figure.
The active population in the Community of Madrid has increased by 53,300 people in the last quarter, reaching 3,939,100. The region contributes nearly one in five new active individuals in Spain. The Madrid activity rate stands at 63.9%, 4.6 points above the national figure (59.3%).
These figures confirm that Madrid remains one of the main engines of employment and opportunities in the country, with a labour market that not only grows in the number of employed but also improves in quality and stability.
For the citizens of the region, these figures represent a favourable context in terms of job opportunities and unemployment reduction, although trade unions remind that challenges such as temporary contracts in certain sectors and gender disparities in unemployment still persist.
The regional government has positively assessed the data, highlighting that the Community of Madrid continues to lead job creation in Spain. However, sources from the regional executive have indicated that they will continue to work on improving employability and training for workers.
In the coming months, the positive trend is expected to continue, although from the economic sphere, there is a warning about the need to monitor the evolution of inflation and geopolitical tensions that could affect the labour market.
