The Madrid Health Service has coordinated over 2,000 assistances to citizens evacuated or confined due to wildfires in the region, with 18 stable hospitalisations and no serious cases.
The Community of Madrid has surpassed 2,000 healthcare attentions to citizens evacuated to sports centres in other municipalities or confined in their localities due to the wildfires affecting the region. The Madrid Health Service (SERMAS) is maintaining all resources coordinated to assist the affected population.
The Primary Care Emergency Services (Continuing Care Points) have carried out 913 assistances. This Wednesday, the centres in Villa del Prado, San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Pelayos de la Presa, and Santa María de la Alameda opened their doors, bringing healthcare closer to the most affected areas.
In the public hospitals of the region, 312 assistances have been recorded, mainly for patients with respiratory problems. Of these, 18 remain hospitalised, all stable and without serious conditions. SUMMA 112 has mobilised over 380 professionals, who have provided 268 healthcare attentions and 590 transfers, 61 of which were hospital-related and the rest linked to evacuations.
The deployment of SUMMA 112 includes 92 non-urgent medical transport ambulances for evacuations from residences, 45 Basic Life Support units, 24 special resources (psychologists, communications, coordination, operational commands), and 10 Advanced Life Support units. The residents displaced to sports centres receive care from nearby hospitals and continuing care points, as well as from SUMMA 112 units.
For the confined population, the Madrid public health system has enabled the possibility of conducting hospital consultations remotely, as long as the pathology and type of consultation allow it. Additionally, SERMAS has reinforced care for all patients in residences, both public and private, with special monitoring of cases that have had to be relocated from confinement or evacuation areas.
Distribution of 52,000 free FFP2 masks
As part of the Action Plan developed by the General Directorate of Public Health, the Community of Madrid is distributing 52,000 FFP2 masks free of charge in the affected municipalities. Yesterday, 2,000 were distributed in Villa del Prado, San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Pelayos de la Presa, and Valdemaqueda. Today, 50,000 will be delivered to the municipalities so that, through Civil Protection, they can distribute them in these and other municipalities as citizens return to their homes.
Home delivery of medications
The Community of Madrid maintains an exceptional procedure for delivering medications to the homes of people in confined municipalities, in collaboration with the Madrid College of Pharmacists (COFM). Pharmacists from operational municipalities are dispatched to provide medications to chronic and vulnerable patients. Another circuit has also been established to ensure supply to evacuees in sports centres and shelters, coordinated with COFM, the municipalities, and Primary Care professionals.
Since last Saturday, 32 pharmacies have been operating in municipalities with evacuees and another eight in confined municipalities.
Reinforcement of the care network
The care network remains reinforced and fully operational. The regional healthcare system has over 800 hospital beds available. Of these, 29 are occupied at the Doctor Rodríguez Lafora University Hospital, where users from a residence for people with mental health issues in Robledo de Chavela were relocated last Friday.
The Community of Madrid continues to operate the public Hospital Enfermera Isabel Zendal as an emergency centre, with a capacity for 241 hospital beds and 12 ICU beds. Pavilion 1 is prepared for triage, reception, or expansion of care capacity if necessary.
The Virgen de La Poveda Hospital in Villa del Prado continues to operate normally, and all patients remain stable. However, the health centres and local clinics in the evacuated towns remain closed, and their professionals are providing support to other nearby centres and to those housed in sports centres.
