The capital's City Council has greenlit a Public Employment Offer of 1,583 positions for next year, adding to the 974 already approved for Police, Firefighters, and SAMUR. The communication office of Mayor Almeida will not receive new staff.
The Madrid City Council has approved a new Public Employment Offer (OEP) for 2026 that includes 1,583 positions, as reported by the City Council. This figure adds to the 974 positions already ratified the previous week for the Municipal Police, Firefighters, and SAMUR-Civil Protection, bringing the total to 2,557 positions, the largest public job offer in the history of the City Council.
Of the 1,583 positions in the new OEP, 1,077 correspond to the open competition and 506 to internal promotion. The offer prioritises areas such as social services, municipal health, sports facilities, administration, and technical profiles. However, the communication office of Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida is not among the departments that will see an increase in staff.
Municipal sources have explained that the current communication team is considered sufficient to cover the needs arising from institutional activity and the City Council's communication. This decision contrasts with the commitment to strengthen other essential services for citizens.
Among the approved positions, 190 are aimed at boosting new municipal projects, such as enhancing social services in the districts, the new urban control service, Madrid Health programmes, the opening of libraries, and the operation of sports facilities. Additionally, 216 positions are reserved to strengthen cross-cutting categories that support the entire municipal administration, such as senior administration technicians, management technicians, administrative assistants, and internal services personnel.
The health sector will receive significant support. Madrid Health will incorporate 90 new professionals, including psychologists, doctors, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and veterinarians. This is complemented by 133 positions to reinforce social services in the districts, with social workers, social educators, psychologists, and specialised assistants.
The offer also increases technical profiles, with 84 positions in architecture and engineering, 35 specialised in information and communication technologies, and 47 for pharmacists and veterinarians. Another area with significant growth corresponds to municipal sports facilities, where 357 positions of various categories will be created to meet the expansion of these services.
In terms of internal promotion, the City Council will offer 506 positions aimed at categories such as Senior Administration Technician, Administrative, Management Technician, and Administrative Assistant, as well as other technical, health, social, and environmental profiles. The call includes a reserve of 76 positions for people with disabilities, of which 22 will be allocated to individuals with intellectual disabilities, within the General Services Operator category.
With this OEP, the Madrid City Council aims to strengthen the provision of public services and address the new challenges of the city.
