The white club has put a new renewal proposal on the table for the Brazilian forward, whose contract expires in 2027, after Arsenal's record interest became known.
Real Madrid has stepped up negotiations with Vinicius Junior. According to Sky, the white entity has presented a counteroffer to the Brazilian and his representatives with the aim of securing his long-term future and dispelling rumours linking him to Arsenal.
The London club, according to reports from the Telegraph and The Athletic, is reportedly willing to launch a record offer to tempt the 26-year-old forward, who would earn the highest salary in the history of the Gunners in London. In response to this threat, Real Madrid has reacted with a proposal aimed at accelerating Vinicius's renewal, whose current contract expires in 2027.
Negotiations between the club and the player have been ongoing for over a year and have gone through several pauses. Initially, Vinicius demanded a salary that the management considered exorbitant, wanting to match at least what Kylian Mbappé earns. Over time, the Brazilian has reportedly lowered his demands, which led Sky to report in the spring of an imminent agreement that, however, never materialised.
Now, Arsenal's interest has once again put pressure on the table. Real Madrid does not want to risk losing Vinicius for free in 2027 when his contract expires. Therefore, the management has decided to improve the offer to achieve a definitive yes. If the player does not accept, a sale this summer would gain momentum.
The Mourinho Factor
The return of José Mourinho to the Real Madrid bench adds an extra component to the situation. There is a tense history between the Portuguese coach and Vinicius. In February, during a Champions League match against Benfica, then coached by Mourinho, the Brazilian scored the winning goal (1-0) and celebrated it exuberantly. After the match, Mourinho criticised the celebration and also suggested that Vinicius bore some responsibility for the racist insults he receives: “There is something not right, because this happens in all stadiums. In every stadium where Vinicius plays, something happens. Always,” he stated.
Despite that exchange of statements, Mourinho is clear that he wants to count on Vinicius. According to the Telegraph, the new white coach considers the Brazilian a key player and will do everything possible to retain him. Last season, Vinicius scored 22 goals and provided 14 assists in 53 official matches, establishing himself as one of the team's offensive pillars.
For now, Real Madrid is awaiting a response from Vinicius to the counteroffer.
