The Aranjuez City Council has organised a special evening on August 12 with activities, observation of the partial solar eclipse, and a concert by the band Vaya Movida in the UNESCO Square.
On August 12, the UNESCO Square in Aranjuez will become the epicentre for observing the partial solar eclipse. The City Council has prepared a programme that combines science and music, with a performance by the local band Vaya Movida as the grand finale.
The event will begin at 7:00 PM with a performance by singer Patri Enar from Vaya Movida, who will entertain the audience while they wait for the astronomical phenomenon to begin. The first contact of the Moon with the Sun is expected at 7:40 PM, while the moment of maximum obscuration will occur around 8:30 PM.
Once the peak of the eclipse has passed, at 8:40 PM, the concert by Vaya Movida will start, a band that promises to provide the musical highlight of a day designed for family enjoyment. The City Council chose the UNESCO Square for its spaciousness and orientation, considering it one of the best locations in the city to observe the eclipse.
The Council reminds everyone that it is essential to use approved glasses to observe the eclipse, as looking directly at the Sun without protection can cause irreversible damage to the eyes. Those who do not have them can still obtain theirs: in recent weeks, four informative sessions have been held in collaboration with the Madrid Astronomical Group, where approved glasses were distributed among attendees. All sessions reached full capacity, demonstrating the interest of the locals in this phenomenon.
This initiative is part of the Aranjuez City Council's commitment to scientific dissemination through open and participatory activities. The partial solar eclipse will be visible from all over Spain, but Aranjuez offers a privileged environment for its observation, with the UNESCO Square as the main stage.
Attendees are advised to arrive early to secure a good spot, especially if coming in groups or with children. Clear skies will be key to enjoying the spectacle, although the weather forecast will be known in the days leading up to the event.
