The Aranjuez Town Hall has launched an emergency plan to combat the proliferation of mosquitoes. Treatments will take place during the early hours of Monday, July 28, at seven strategic points in the municipality.
The Aranjuez Town Hall has activated an emergency plan to strengthen the fight against mosquitoes, which includes a new campaign of treatments at various points in the municipality. The actions will begin during the early hours of Monday, July 28, between 6:00 and 8:00 AM, and will be carried out by the company awarded the municipal vector surveillance and control service.
The work will focus on seven specific areas: the interior of the Municipal Sports Centre pool, the Camino de Yeserías, the Glorieta del Tamarindo, San Antonio street (from Carrera de Andalucía to Foso street, with special emphasis on the flowerbeds), the area near IES Santiago Rusiñol, the green areas of Las Olivas and El Deleite, and the green areas of the Príncipe, Infantas, Capitán neighbourhoods and other streets in the municipality.
This emergency plan adds to the actions already carried out during the current month of July, which include fumigation treatments in the Algodor area, the exterior of the Municipal Sports Centre pool, and the Piragüera. Larvicidal treatments have also been applied in the Glorieta del Tamarindo, after locating larvae in tree pits, and in a downspout of the Municipal Sports Centre pool.
The Town Hall reminds that treatments aimed at eliminating larvae are the most effective tool to curb the proliferation of mosquitoes, as they act on the source of the problem. In contrast, treatments against adult insects only allow for a partial reduction of their presence, making it essential to locate and eliminate breeding sites.
In this regard, citizen collaboration remains fundamental. The Town Hall calls for regular checks of terraces, patios, gardens, pots, downspouts, containers, and any other elements where stagnant water may accumulate, as a significant part of the breeding sites is found on private properties.
The Town Hall maintains ongoing surveillance, inspection, and control work throughout the municipal area to apply necessary treatments based on the evolution of mosquito populations and weather conditions. The municipal contract includes a specific surveillance and control service throughout the year for all potential breeding sites, including the sewage network, drains, manholes, wells, collectors, channels, ornamental fountains, wetlands, watercourses, sports facilities, municipal buildings, and any other point likely to harbour larvae.
During the months of highest incidence, inspections and larvicidal treatments are intensified, with at least two monthly actions in the most sensitive areas, in addition to monitoring adult mosquito populations to apply additional treatments when necessary. The service also includes actions against other vectors harmful to public health, such as black flies, cockroaches, rats, mice, wasps, fleas, or ticks, ensuring permanent control throughout the year and addressing citizen reports within a maximum of 24 hours.
The Town Hall also informs that the treatments planned for this campaign use a product that is safe for people and the environment, so no special measures are required from the public, nor are there restrictions on the use of treated spaces.
Residents who detect the presence of mosquitoes, tiger mosquitoes, black flies, or other pests such as rats or cockroaches can report it through the Citizen Attention Office (OAC), both via the municipal website and in person at the Town Hall offices. The Town Hall will continue to strengthen surveillance and control efforts to minimise the presence of these vectors, emphasising that the collaboration of all citizens is essential to locate breeding sites and ensure that actions are truly effective.
