The San Fernando de Henares City Council has activated the declaration of imminent physical ruin for three buildings on Nazario Calonge Street, specifically numbers 14, 16, and 18. The measure, adopted through a municipal decree, responds to technical reports revealing widespread structural damage, active cracks, and ongoing movements.
The councillor for Planning and Sustainable Development, Santos Rozalén, has emphasised that the absolute priority of the City Council is to protect public safety. “The decisions made are based solely on technical and preventive criteria, and have been taken with the utmost responsibility in light of the evolution of the issues detected in the building,” he stated.
The resolution is based on Article 172 of the Land Law of the Community of Madrid and has the sole objective of preserving public safety. The building at number 16 has already been declared in imminent ruin, and the same will be done for numbers 14 and 18 once the procedures are completed.
The City Council is also evaluating the situation of number 12 on the same street, although no definitive decision has been made at this time. Municipal technicians continue to analyse the issues of this building to determine if similar measures are required.
Technical reports indicate that the structural damage is widespread and that the active cracks and movements of the building require new evaluation and monitoring actions. In light of this situation, the decree requires the preparation of the necessary technical documentation to define the actions needed to restore the safety conditions of the property.
The problem on Nazario Calonge Street has been ongoing for some time. The Community of Madrid has been conducting technical monitoring work in the area for years due to the effects caused by the construction of the Metro line 7B. The City Council reminds that the management of the works and possible repairs, relocations, and compensations fall under the regional administration.
Therefore, the decree will be notified to the Community of Madrid to ensure institutional coordination and the continuity of safety actions. The City Council continues to demand that the regional government provide definitive solutions to the problems generated by the Metro line 7B, the management of which is the responsibility of the Community.
