Torrejon gymnast Bárbara Herrera has concluded a dream season by maintaining First Category status and finishing fifth in Spain's team competition alongside her club.
Torrejon de Ardoz gymnast Bárbara Herrera has once again demonstrated her worth in the elite of national rhythmic gymnastics. After being crowned Spanish champion last year and achieving promotion to First Category, she has now managed to maintain her level and close a brilliant season with her teammates from the San Fernando de Henares Rhythmic Gymnastics Club.
In the Spanish Championship by teams, held in Castellón from July 1 to 4, Herrera and her team achieved fifth place in the overall classification and reached eighth position in the final. These results allow them to retain their category and continue competing among the best teams in the country.
On an individual level, the Torrejon gymnast also left her mark. In the same national championship, she placed fifth in the clubs routine and sixth in the hoop. Throughout the season, she has participated in the Iberdrola League, where she has competed against top international gymnasts such as Italian Tara Dragas and Belarusian Alina Har, as well as Spaniards of the caliber of Alba Bautista, Daniela Picó, and Lucía González. In that competition, Herrera finished seventh in clubs, and her team also secured seventh place in the group final.
Bárbara Herrera trains under the technical direction of Yaiza Moreno at the San Fernando de Henares Rhythmic Gymnastics Club. The club's technical director is Sonia Abejón, also from Torrejón de Ardoz and an Olympic diploma holder from the Athens 2004 Games, a role model for the young talents of the locality.
The mayor of Torrejón de Ardoz, Alejandro Navarro, publicly congratulated the gymnast. “Congratulations on the great season you have had and for showing that both you and your teammates deserve to be among the best gymnasts in our country. Keep it up because hard work and effort lead to achieving goals,” the mayor stated.
With this season, Bárbara Herrera establishes herself as one of the leading figures in rhythmic gymnastics in the Community of Madrid and in Spain. Her progression, from promotion to First Category to maintaining her status among the best, is an example of perseverance and dedication for young Torrejon athletes.
The San Fernando de Henares Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, based in the Henares Corridor, continues to train high-level gymnasts. The presence of Sonia Abejón at the helm of the technical direction provides invaluable experience that is reflected in the athletes' results.
