The City Council of Alcobendas, through its Local Police, has launched the 'Safe Holidays' campaign with advice to prevent thefts and accidents in homes during the summer period.

The Local Police of Alcobendas has activated its 'Safe Holidays' campaign so that residents can go on holiday with peace of mind. The initiative, which starts in July, provides guidelines to prevent unoccupied homes from becoming easy targets for thieves.

The main objective is to reduce the risk of thefts and domestic accidents. According to the City Council, many incidents occur when homes remain empty for days or weeks. Therefore, the Local Police has prepared a series of practical recommendations.

Key recommendations to protect your home

Before leaving home, the Local Police advises checking that all doors and windows are securely closed, especially those leading to inner courtyards or less visible areas. It also recommends not fully lowering the blinds, as a home with completely lowered blinds is a clear sign that no one is home.

Another useful tip is to remove valuable items from open terraces. Additionally, the Local Police stresses the importance of being cautious about the information shared on social media: avoid posting holiday dates or photos that show the house empty, as criminals can use this information to plan a burglary.

Finally, it is suggested to leave a set of keys with a trusted person, such as a family member or neighbour, so they can visit the house periodically, collect mail from the mailbox, and alert the owner in case of an emergency.

Community collaboration, key to safety

The Local Police of Alcobendas also appeals to collective responsibility. They ask residents to be alert to suspicious individuals or strange behaviour in the streets and neighbourhoods. If any signs are noticed, it is best to immediately call the Local Police so that officers can investigate.

This citizen collaboration is essential for maintaining safety in the municipality. Prevention starts with each neighbour, they remind from the City Council.

How to contact the Local Police for safer travel

The City Council of Alcobendas offers a contact registration service for those who want to travel with greater peace of mind. By providing their details, officers can locate the owner in case of any incident at their home during their absence.

For more information or to join this service, residents can call the free numbers 900 210 712 or 092. They can also visit the Citizen Attention Units of the Security Area: in the Central District (Calle Libertad, 8), in the North District (Avenida de Valdelaparra, 124) and in the Urbanizations District (Avenida de Bruselas). Another option is to send an email to policialocal@alcobendas.org.

In short, the 'Safe Holidays' campaign aims for the residents of Alcobendas to enjoy the summer without worries. As the Local Police reminds, prevention and citizen collaboration are the best tools to maintain safety in the municipality.
