The Drone Unit of the Local Police of Galapagar has caught a young woman spray painting on the wall of the municipal sports centre. The offender now faces a fine of up to €3,000.
A young woman was caught by the Drone Unit of the Local Police of Galapagar while spray painting on the wall of the municipal sports centre. The incident occurred during routine aerial surveillance, when an officer spotted the perpetrator from the sky and was able to record her live.
The drone, which the Galapagar Town Hall has described as "the all-seeing eye from the sky", moved to the exact location to capture images and videos of the offence. Immediately, a ground patrol was dispatched to the scene to identify the graffiti artist.
With the visual evidence collected, the Local Police has prepared the corresponding report and proposed a sanction. The offender now faces fines that can reach €3,000, as established in the municipal ordinances against vandalism.
This is not the first time this technology has proven its effectiveness in the municipality. Just a few days ago, aerial cameras allowed intervention against residents who were having a barbecue during the national emergency due to the risk of wildfires. On this occasion, the aim has been to protect the image of the municipality against vandalistic graffiti.
The Councillor for Security of Galapagar, Javier Álvarez, has defended the use of drones as a key tool to ensure compliance with regulations. "Aerial surveillance will continue to be deployed throughout the municipality to ensure cleanliness, safety, and respect for the rules," he stated in remarks reported by the town hall.
The Town Hall reiterates its zero tolerance towards vandalism that damages public property. The drone unit, launched several months ago, has become a regular resource for the Local Police, which uses it for both fire prevention and the detection of urban or environmental infractions.
The identified young woman will now have to face the payment of the fine, which can range between €750 and €3,000, depending on the severity of the damage caused. The graffiti at the sports centre has already been cleaned by municipal services, according to sources from the Town Hall.
These types of actions are part of the town hall's strategy to keep the municipality in good condition and deter those who threaten urban furniture or public buildings. The Local Police encourages residents to cooperate by reporting any vandalistic acts they witness.
The use of drones by security forces has become widespread in recent years in numerous municipalities in the Community of Madrid. In Galapagar, the unit has proven to be particularly effective in catching offenders in the act, as it allows for discreet and continuous aerial surveillance.
Officers remind that unauthorized graffiti on public or private surfaces constitutes a serious offence according to the municipal coexistence ordinance. In addition to the financial penalty, the offender may be required to repair the damage caused.
For now, the identity of the graffiti artist is unknown, and it is unclear whether she has a history of such acts. The investigation remains open, although the evidence collected by the drone is considered sufficient to initiate the sanctioning process.
The Town Hall of Galapagar has emphasized that it will continue to use all technological means at its disposal to protect public property and ensure safety on the streets. The drone unit will continue to conduct periodic surveillance flights, especially in sensitive areas such as parks, sports facilities, and areas of special scenic value.
