The Madrid City Council activates two special free bus services to alleviate the Metro cuts on lines 6 and 7 during the summer works. The SE6 will connect Argüelles with Ciudad Universitaria and the SE7 will link Gregorio Marañón with Pitis.
The Municipal Transport Company of Madrid (EMT) will launch two special free bus services from this Saturday to replace the planned cuts on Metro lines 6 and 7 during the summer works. The service, named SE6 and SE7, will operate every day of the week until 3 September, with frequencies ranging from six to nine minutes, as reported by the City Council.
The first cut will affect line 6, which will be closed from Saturday until 3 September in the section between Argüelles and Ciudad Universitaria due to track renewal works and platform reinforcement to install doors for future automation. In that section, the Moncloa station will be out of service.
One day later, on Sunday, circulation on line 7 will be interrupted between Gregorio Marañón and Pitis, a cut that will last until 28 August. The works will focus on renewing the signalling system and the track. In total, EMT Madrid will deploy up to 24 buses to cover both routes.
The special SE6 service will link the stations of Ciudad Universitaria and Argüelles. It will operate every day with a frequency of six minutes on weekdays and seven or eight minutes on Saturdays and public holidays. The first departure from both terminals will be at 6:05 AM, coinciding with the usual opening of the Metro. The last departures will occur at 11:20 PM from Ciudad Universitaria and at 11:33 PM from Argüelles, although on Fridays and Saturdays they will be extended until 2:12 AM and 1:48 AM, respectively.
In the direction of Argüelles, the buses will depart from Avenida de la Complutense, in front of the Faculty of Medicine (stop 1688), make an intermediate stop at Plaza de la Moncloa with Paseo de Moret (stop 740), and finish at Calle de la Princesa, 55 (stop 51136). In the opposite direction, towards Ciudad Universitaria, they will leave from Calle de la Princesa, 55, stop at Paseo de Moret, 1, next to Plaza de Moncloa (stop 15525), and end at Avenida de la Complutense, next to the Faculty of Medicine (stop 1687).
Meanwhile, the SE7 service will cover the section between Gregorio Marañón and Pitis. It will operate every day with a frequency of seven minutes on weekdays and nine minutes on Saturdays and public holidays. The first departure from both terminals will be at 6:05 AM. The last departure will take place at 1:33 AM from Pitis and at 1:58 AM from Gregorio Marañón.
In the direction of Gregorio Marañón, the buses will start their route at Calle de Gloria Fuertes with María Casares (stop 4282), next to the Pitis station. They will stop at the stations of Arroyofresno, Lacoma, Avenida de la Ilustración, Peñagrande, Antonio Machado, Valdezarza, Francos Rodríguez, Guzmán el Bueno, Islas Filipinas, Canal, and Alonso Cano, finishing at Calle de José Abascal, 58 (stop 810), next to Gregorio Marañón.
In the opposite direction, from Gregorio Marañón, the buses will depart from a newly created stop (51300) on Paseo de la Castellana, 51. They will then stop at Alonso Cano (Calle de Santa Engracia, 112), Canal (Plaza de Juan Zorrilla), Islas Filipinas (Avenida de Filipinas, 1), Guzmán el Bueno (Calle del General Ibáñez Ibero, 1), Francos Rodríguez (Avenida de Pablo Iglesias, 92), Valdezarza, Antonio Machado, Peñagrande, Avenida de la Ilustración, Lacoma, and Arroyofresno, until they reach Pitis.
Residents of the capital who regularly use these sections of the Metro should allow for longer travel times, especially during peak hours, although the bus frequencies aim to minimise inconvenience. The City Council recommends checking the schedules and stops on the EMT Madrid website and on the information panels at the stations.
These works are part of the Metro de Madrid modernisation plan, which includes track renewal and the installation of platform doors for the future automation of line 6. The works on line 7, on the other hand, will improve signalling and service capacity. Both cuts coincide with the summer period, when the demand for public transport is usually lower, which reduces the impact on travellers.
