The Torrejón de Ardoz City Council has intensified control calls to elderly individuals, those with disabilities, or dependents living alone to prevent the effects of high temperatures, which have already exceeded 38 degrees.
The Torrejón de Ardoz City Council has launched a special monitoring device for the most vulnerable people amid the heatwave affecting the Community of Madrid. Since the beginning of summer, and especially during these days with temperatures exceeding 38 degrees, the Municipal Home Teleassistance Service has reinforced control and companionship calls to the elderly, people with disabilities, and those in a situation of dependency, with special attention to those living alone.
This action is automatically activated when the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) issues orange or red alerts for extreme heat. Currently, the Community of Madrid maintains levels 1 and 2 of High Risk in the Heatwave Effects Monitoring Plan on Health, which has led the Torrejón council to take extra precautions.
The aim of the device is to detect any risk situations, check the health status of users, and remind them of the main recommendations to protect themselves from the heat. Among the advice provided by the service professionals are to maintain proper hydration, avoid going out during the hottest hours of the day, stay in cool places, refresh the home by lowering blinds or using fans or air conditioning, wear light clothing, and have fresh and light meals.
Monitoring is especially reinforced for those who live alone and, as a priority, among those users who lack a family support network to turn to in case of emergency. This group is one of the most vulnerable to episodes of extreme heat.
The Municipal Home Teleassistance Service is one of the most demanded and highly valued social resources by the residents of Torrejón de Ardoz. Currently, it provides assistance to 1,520 users, including people over 65, individuals with disabilities, and those in a situation of dependency. It offers companionship, security, and immediate response 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
The system allows users to contact specialised professionals with just the press of a button. In addition to responding to any emergency, it provides peace of mind to both users and their families, enabling individuals to remain in their homes with greater autonomy, security, and quality of life.

The service is available 24 hours a day, and its activation can be crucial in preventing heat strokes and other emergencies in the coming days, during which high temperatures are expected to continue.
