The fronton of the Joaquín Blume Sports City in Torrejón de Ardoz became the stage for the National Open of the locality on Saturday, July 25, an unprecedented event within the Frontenis Tour Promo 2026 circuit. The competition, aimed at the youth categories, brought together young talents from the ball sport from the Community of Madrid and other regions such as Valencia, where some of the best players in this discipline are concentrated.
The event, organised by the Madrid Pelota Federation in collaboration with the Torrejón Ball Club and the Torrejón de Ardoz City Council, was part of the calendar of sports activities with which the city celebrates its designation as European City of Sport 2026. The tournament was held in the Pre Frontenis doubles format, using slow balls, and in the youth category, fast pressurised balls were also used, a faster variant intended for more advanced levels.
The competition system combined direct elimination with a consolation phase, ensuring that all participants played at least two matches. The day concluded with the award ceremony, attended by the Councillor for Culture, José Antonio Moreno, and the President of the Madrid Pelota Federation, Alejandro Martín Ramos.
In the slow ball youth category, the pair formed by Álex González and Aarón López were crowned champions. In the fast ball youth category, the winners were Diego Latorre and Iker Martínez. Meanwhile, in the mixed youth category, Marco Manzanero and Bruno Vázquez took home the gold medal.
The Mayor of Torrejón de Ardoz, Alejandro Navarro Prieto, highlighted that this competition has been added to the calendar of sports activities in a year where the city is the European City of Sport and is hosting a large number of top-level, popular, and grassroots events. He also emphasised that the celebration of these events in Torrejón de Ardoz continues to promote sports tourism, as athletes arrive from various parts of Spain, accompanied by their families, along with all the technical staff, contributing to the city's economic dynamism.
The National Open of Torrejón de Ardoz was the third qualifying event of the year out of a total of eight national events in the Frontenis Tour, a circuit organised by the Spanish Pelota Federation. At the end of the eight events, the highest-ranked players in the national ranking will compete in a national Master. For the young athletes from Torrejón and other communities, this competition represents a unique opportunity to earn points and gain experience in a national tournament without leaving the region.
Torrejón de Ardoz, which holds the title of European City of Sport in 2026, has seen its sports agenda multiply with top-level, popular, and grassroots events.
