The Boadilla del Monte City Council has activated a reception device for the residents of Valdemaqueda evacuated due to the wildfire in the Sierra Oeste. The Rey Felipe VI sports centre has been set up as a temporary shelter.
The wildfire affecting the Sierra Oeste of the Community of Madrid has forced the evacuation of residents from Valdemaqueda, who are being transferred to Boadilla del Monte. The City Council of this locality has launched a special device to accommodate the displaced at the Rey Felipe VI sports centre, where they are provided with accommodation and basic assistance.
The evacuation was activated following the receipt of an emergency alert ES-Alert sent by the National Emergency Centre (CENEM), due to the evolution of the fire and the risk to the population. Those affected are being transported by intercity buses from the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid, while SUMMA 112 provides support to individuals with reduced mobility to ensure safe transportation.
To make this operation possible, the City Council has temporarily reorganised some of the municipal sports activities. The summer camps and colonies that were taking place at the Rey Felipe VI sports centre have been moved to the Ángel Nieto Sports Complex, while the usual gym activities are being held at the Condesa de Chinchón Sports Complex. The City Council has thanked users for their understanding regarding changes motivated by an emergency situation.
The decision to enable this space responds to the commitment previously made by the municipality to make its facilities available to the authorities if the evolution of the fire made it necessary to assist the evacuees. With the device now operational, the sports centre is prepared to offer affected families temporary accommodation and the basic services they may need during their stay.
The City Council also wanted to convey a message of reassurance to the residents of Boadilla. For the moment, the needs of the evacuees are being met, so there is no requirement for the delivery of food, materials, or the incorporation of volunteers. Should the situation change and citizen collaboration be necessary, the City Council will inform through its official channels.
The Valdemaqueda fire, which began yesterday afternoon, has mobilised numerous firefighting personnel and aerial resources from the Community of Madrid. The flames are advancing through an area of difficult access, complicating extinguishing efforts.
