The Department of Social Affairs of Boadilla del Monte is once again running inclusive camps for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the Ángel Nieto Municipal Sports Complex.
The municipality of Boadilla del Monte continues its commitment to social inclusion with the launch, once again this summer, of inclusive camps aimed at children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and high care needs. The initiative, promoted by the Department of Social Affairs, takes place at the Ángel Nieto Municipal Sports Complex and will run until the end of August, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
One of the main innovations of this program is the attention ratio, which allows for very personalised supervision: each professional is responsible for one or two children, with a maximum of 11 children with ASD per day and week. This organisation ensures that each participant receives the necessary support for their development and well-being during activities.
The facilities of the sports complex have been adapted to provide a safe and stimulating environment. The children have access to a padded tatami room with cushioned floors and walls, ideal for sports and psychomotor activities. They also have two classrooms designated for artistic, creative, painting, and sensory activities, designed to work on cognitive areas and encourage interaction among participants.
Outside, group dynamics and games are organised to promote socialisation. Additionally, the small pool is used as a playful and refreshing resource, especially for the younger ones, aged 3 to 6 years, and as a space for leisure activities. The children have access to their own changing rooms with sinks, showers, toilets, and benches, ensuring their comfort and privacy.
The program also promotes integration with the other participants of the regular sports camps. The spaces in the sports centre can be shared for joint activities, always under the supervision and close collaboration of the coordinators. The goal is for children with ASD and other children to develop as many activities together as possible, thereby fostering real social inclusion.
The workshops offered are varied and adapted daily to the needs of the children. The sports workshop includes races, target dodging games, and activities with balls. The psychomotor workshop proposes manipulative exercises with playdough, clay, and paint, as well as gross motor psychomotor games. The sensory workshop combines dynamic games where children experience different textures, smells, and sounds.
The artistic workshop works on emotional expression, fine motor skills, and imitation through art and crafts with various materials and creative techniques. Meanwhile, the swimming workshop develops personal autonomy skills through physical exercise and enjoyment of water. The social workshops focus on communication and social interaction, using symbolic material in the classroom. Finally, the body expression workshop proposes cognitive stimulation activities, orientation, and coordination through dance and music.
This initiative, which is repeated every summer, represents a valuable resource for families in Boadilla del Monte who have children with ASD, as it offers a professional and adapted environment during school holidays. The high staff ratio and variety of workshops allow for the specific needs of each child to be met while promoting their comprehensive development and social integration.
