The Pozuelo de Alarcón City Council has mobilised the Municipal Police, SEAPA, and Civil Protection to prepare the Daniela Kaiser pavilion, located in the Valle de las Cañas sports complex, for the possible arrival of evacuees from the fire that is sweeping through the west of the Community of Madrid.
The worst forest fire in the history of the Community of Madrid has necessitated the activation of an unprecedented emergency response. Pozuelo de Alarcón has joined the network of municipalities ready to receive the thousands of evacuees fleeing the flames in the western part of the region.
This afternoon, the Pozuelo City Council received the official notice from the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Community of Madrid. Within hours, municipal services have activated the protocol to enable the Daniela Kaiser pavilion as a temporary shelter.
The facilities can accommodate around one hundred people. They are equipped with air conditioning, sufficient toilets, and showers to meet basic needs. The local government is already managing the provision of beds, food, and water to ensure the evacuees' stay if the fire's progression necessitates further evacuations.
The Municipal Police of Pozuelo, the City Council's Emergency Service (SEAPA), and Civil Protection are working in coordination to have everything ready as soon as possible. Personnel have been deployed to the sports complex to finalise preparations and establish an orderly reception point.
The emergency has led to the cancellation of rhythmic gymnastics classes scheduled for this afternoon in the pavilion itself. Additionally, the summer camps taking place in Valle de las Cañas may be affected next week if it becomes necessary to use the space to accommodate evacuees.
The Pozuelo City Council has apologised to facility users for the inconvenience and has assured that it will provide timely updates on any cancellations that may occur. The priority, municipal sources emphasise, is to assist those being evacuated from their homes.
In this way, Pozuelo joins other municipalities in the metropolitan west, such as Las Rozas or Villaviciosa de Odón, which have already begun receiving evacuees. Coordination between local administrations and the Community of Madrid is key to managing a rapidly advancing crisis.
The fire, which began yesterday, has already devastated thousands of hectares of forest land and has necessitated the preventive evacuation of several towns. Adverse weather conditions, with high temperatures and wind, are complicating firefighting efforts.
Residents of Pozuelo who wish to offer assistance can contact the municipal Civil Protection. For now, the City Council has not made a specific call for material donations but does not rule it out if the situation worsens.
