Camino de Bastos street in Navalcarnero has become the new coordination centre for the fight against the fire ravaging the western area of the Community of Madrid since 4:00 PM, following the evacuation of Cenicientos.
Since early afternoon on Saturday, Navalcarnero has become the epicentre of the battle against the fire that has kept the western area of the Community of Madrid on edge. The new advanced command post has been set up on Camino de Bastos street, after the proximity of the flames forced the evacuation of the previous operations centre located in Cenicientos.
After 4:00 PM, the first vehicles of the operation began to arrive in stages. Large trucks from the Military Emergency Unit (UME), firefighters, ambulances, and vehicles from various security forces occupied the designated area, while dozens of personnel unloaded equipment and organised the deployment.
The bar located opposite the site has become an improvised observation point from which locals and onlookers follow the incessant movement of emergency vehicles. “Has the fire reached here?” asked a visibly worried woman who had just arrived in the area upon seeing the concentration of personnel.
As the hours passed, tents began to be erected and the first logistical services were set up, including water supply points and generators for the hundreds of professionals who will participate in managing the fire. Workers and members of the operation are working to make the new advanced command post fully operational, a task that will continue throughout the afternoon.
The fire, considered the worst in the history of the Community of Madrid, has forced the evacuation of several towns. Residents of Cenicientos were the first to leave their homes, and there are fears that other populations may be affected in the coming hours.
The rapid response of the emergency teams has allowed for the establishment of this new coordination centre in record time. The UME, along with the firefighters of the Community of Madrid and civil protection units, are working tirelessly to contain the flames. From the new command post, the extinction strategy is directed, which includes aerial and ground resources.
