The Town Hall of Galapagar has modified the hours of the Regulated Parking Service (SER) so that afternoons in August will be free for parking. The measure, of an indefinite nature, aims to adapt to the lower summer activity.
Residents and visitors of Galapagar will be able to park free of charge in the blue and green spaces in the urban area during the afternoons of August. The Town Hall has approved a modification of the SER that reduces the paid hours to the mornings, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday to Friday, throughout the month.
The decision, adopted by Mayoral Decree, is indefinite and will be applied every year in August. The objective, according to municipal sources, is to adapt the service to the lower commercial and mobility activity recorded in the municipality during the summer period.
A relief for wallets during holidays
With the new hours, drivers will be able to park for free in the regulated spaces in the centre from 2:00 PM until the following day. On Saturdays, the SER will remain active only in the morning, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, while Sundays and holidays were already free.
The measure affects the blue and green zones of the urban area, where parking is usually limited to a maximum of two hours in the morning and afternoon. During August, this time limitation disappears in the afternoons, allowing for longer stays at no additional cost.
The Town Hall reminds that, outside of August, the SER maintains its usual hours: Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The new regulation comes into effect on August 1 and will also apply in subsequent Augusts, without the need for new procedures.
A measure that makes life easier for merchants and residents
The decision responds to the request of merchants and residents, who during the summer see a reduced influx of vehicles and considered it excessive to maintain time control. With this modification, the Town Hall aims to boost commercial activity and facilitate access to central services without the pressure of the parking meter.
This is not the first time that the Town Council has adjusted the SER during periods of low demand. In previous years, similar measures had been applied on a temporary basis, but now it is consolidated as a fixed norm for the month of August. The municipal ordinance on sustainable mobility already includes this change, which does not affect the rest of the year.
For regular drivers, the news represents an economic relief, especially for those who work in the municipality or come to carry out errands in the afternoon. The estimated savings per user can be around 30 euros per month, depending on their use of the SER.
From the Town Hall, they warn that, despite the afternoon free parking, the obligation to respect the time limitation signs in those spaces that are not regulated parking remains in force. The measure only affects the blue and green spaces managed by the SER.
The new hours are already available on the municipal website and on the information panels in the urban area. Drivers who wish for more information can consult the ordinance or contact the Citizen Attention Office.
