The Colmenar Viejo Town Hall promotes the Basic Material Assistance Programme, which provides wallet cards to families with children in vulnerable situations to buy food and hygiene products.
The Colmenar Viejo Town Hall, through the Department of Social Policy, continues the distribution of wallet cards from the Basic Material Assistance Programme of the Community of Madrid. This initiative, which is already underway, aims to help families with dependent children who are facing economic difficulties to meet their essential needs.
The assistance consists of a card that allows the purchase of food, personal hygiene products, menstrual hygiene items, and baby diapers at participating establishments. Additionally, it includes personalised social support to promote the inclusion of the participating families.
The Councillor for Social Policy, Jesús Fernández Fuillerat, explained that
“the Town Hall works to ensure that no family facing difficulties is unaware of the resources and assistance available to them. This programme is an important support to guarantee the coverage of basic needs, while also offering social support tailored to each situation.”
To access this benefit, it is necessary to request an appointment with the designated social worker at the municipal Social Services. There, the personal and family situation is assessed, eligibility is verified (being registered in the municipality, having dependent children, and being in an unfavourable economic situation), and the corresponding referral is processed.
Once the referral is approved, the Community of Madrid contacts the beneficiaries to provide them with the card, which they can use immediately at participating shops. The programme is fully funded by the regional government and is developed in Colmenar Viejo in collaboration with the Town Hall.
Interested individuals can request an appointment at the municipal Social Services, where they will receive personalised advice on this programme and other available assistance. The Town Hall reminds that this resource is in addition to other municipal benefits aimed at families in vulnerable situations.
The Department of Social Policy emphasises that the goal is for no family in the municipality to be unaware of the assistance they can apply for, especially in a context where the prices of basic products continue to pressure household finances.
