The Community of Madrid has accredited 13 new Centres, Services and Reference Units (CSUR) of the National Health System, bringing the total to 129, more than 30% of the national total.
The public healthcare system in Madrid is expanding its network of specialised care. With the latest call from the Ministry of Health, published this August, the region has incorporated 13 new CSUR and now has 129 reference centres, which represents more than 30% of the 420 existing across Spain.
Six public hospitals in the Community of Madrid have expanded their portfolio of accreditations. Hospital La Paz leads the list with five new designations, followed by Gregorio Marañón (three), Niño Jesús (two), and Ramón y Cajal, 12 de Octubre, and Clínico San Carlos, each with one.
With these changes, the distribution is as follows: La Paz (43), Gregorio Marañón (25), Ramón y Cajal (15), 12 de Octubre (15), Clínico San Carlos (10), Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda (8), the paediatric Niño Jesús (7), La Princesa (4), and Getafe (2).
The CSUR guarantee care for patients from all over Spain suffering from complex or rare diseases that require highly specialised procedures. The designation is made by ministerial order, following an agreement from the Interterritorial Council of the SNS, after an evaluation of the established requirements and criteria.
For Madrid patients, this means closer access to cutting-edge treatments without the need to travel to other regions. The expansion reinforces the region's role as a national healthcare reference hub, with a third of the accredited resources in the country.
The next call for new accreditations will open in the coming months, according to the usual schedule of the Ministry of Health.
