Hundreds of residents and visitors accompanied the patrons Justo and Pastor this Thursday in their traditional procession through the Historic Centre of Alcalá de Henares, following the mass officiated by the bishop.
Alcalá de Henares experienced one of the most emotional days of its Patron Saint Festivities this Thursday with the Solemn Mass and the subsequent procession in honour of the Holy Children Justo and Pastor. The procession traversed the main streets of the Historic Centre, surrounded by hundreds of locals and visitors who did not want to miss one of the most deeply rooted events in the city's festive calendar.
The mayor, Judith Piquet, led the official delegation alongside councillors from the Government Team, members of the Municipal Corporation, and representatives from the Brotherhoods Board. The Eucharist was officiated by the bishop of Alcalá de Henares, Antonio Prieto Lucena, before the procession began.
The afternoon unfolded with displays of devotion and tradition, with an atmosphere that attendees described as “very special.” At the end of the procession, the mayor thanked “the involvement of the organisation and the participation of all the residents, who once again have contributed to keeping alive one of the city's most entrenched traditions.”
The Patron Saint Festivities continue this weekend with a programme that combines culture, family leisure, and music. On Friday, there will be children's activities, a foam party, a dance with the Marlen orchestra, and a DJ session with DJ Demon. Saturday features a parade of giants and big-heads, a magic show by Morfeo, a concert by Metrolé, and the distribution of charitable migas. On Sunday, the traditional distribution of paella and a chess tournament will take place.
The exhibition “Brush and Chisel” will remain open until 16 August at the Quinta de Cervantes, showcasing works by around twenty local artists. Those interested in guided tours of the Antiquarium of Complutum can go directly to the site, while the “Rhymes and Legends” route requires prior registration at the Tourist Office.
