The president of the Cofradía de Nuestra Señora del Val delivered the inaugural speech this Tuesday in the Plenary Hall, with Mayor Judith Piquet present.
The Patron Saint Festivities in honour of the Santos Niños Justo and Pastor officially began this Tuesday, August 4, in Alcalá de Henares. The inaugural speech was given by Gema García, president of the Cofradía de Nuestra Señora del Val, at an event held in the Plenary Hall of the Town Hall, presided over by Mayor Judith Piquet.
Before the speech, the municipal leader participated in the Cathedral Magistral in the traditional transfer of the ark containing the relics of the Santos Niños to the main altar, as well as in the floral offering to the Patrons, which involved institutions, entities, and associations from the city. The day continued with a mass officiated by the Bishop of Alcalá, Antonio Prieto Lucena.
Piquet emphasised that "the Fiestas de los Santos Niños unite tradition, culture, leisure, and devotion in a unique way." In her speech, she highlighted that these are "festivities with a lot of symbolic weight, more intimate and family-oriented, because they connect us with our Christian roots, with our origins as a city, and with our oldest neighbourhood traditions."

The mayor thanked "the beautiful and emblematic speech for Alcalá" delivered by Gema García and acknowledged the work of the Cofradía throughout the year. She also expressed gratitude to the entities and groups participating in the festivities and to the residents who "contribute their work and talent" to the celebration.
Piquet invited the people of Alcalá and visitors to "enjoy these beloved and endearing festivities with good harmony and an open heart." "Together, we will experience and show those who wish to visit us a celebration filled with memory, communion, respect, and fun," she affirmed, stressing that this is how they honour the history and traditions of the city.
